I have seen the video's, I was on the water that day and know the conditions, I was only minutes from the accident sight, I am very well aware of the circumstances & the outcome.

So most forms transportation have special groups to investigate crashes like the NTSB

Is there a group like that for boat racing?

Can someone pay for a investigation into the cause of a crash and the actual cause of death?

I bet if you had the data you could then figure out how to make a difference.

For sure, elect Trippin as your spokesperson.

The upside is many will save money in the future by buying cheaper outboards.

Clarification?

While it is truly unfortunate that a loss of life has happened it is none the less inevitable with this sport. Yes it is a sport. The organizers are not personally responsible for this tragic loss of life. The Coast Guard was on the water, a heavy presence of F&W was on the water and to me it was apperant that they made every attempt to keep some of the local idiots out of the way. They just cant do it all, there will always be someone that interferes on purpose or inadvertanetly. The Cruiser we all see in the video was IMO to close to the course, F&W missed them, or they moved closer after a F&W patrol passed. These things we cannot control. Stupidity and inexperience go hand in hand. Kevin, Brad and Jeff all had the right to run as fast as they wanted and felt comfortable with. They are gone but not forgotten, we all must realize that this is a dangerous sport/activity, we all love it and desire to not see it regulated out of existence. I don't see any reason why this event like all others like it will not come back next year. If I have any voice in the matter then it will stay.

My boat is 1mph faster with the props spinning in.......98mph instead of 97mph does not matter cause I still wish it was 100mph!

But HANDLES 10 Times better with the props spinning OUT! Docking is also easier but the boat just turns, rides, drives, takes waves better with the props OUT!

Every Baja owner and most straight bottom velocity and sonic owners like the props "IN to WIN" but I feel OUT is safer

Thanks Glassdave for all your research I know you are on to something and hope people pay attention

The prop technology is out there people need to just take the time to properly dial their boat in with the props spinning out

Just because you tout all those "championships" doesn't make you an expert in the exact circumstance that Brad & Jeff found themselves in.

I'm not sure what you are trying to defend here. The right/privilege to run at the speed you want? Or are you trying to defend the irresponsibility of running at extreme speed within a safe and reasonable distance to spectator boats?

I think most people on this board in no way want new regulations on boating. Most of us want to keep the freedom to go as fast as we want as long as it's safe.

But these video's certainly show that there was plenty of irresponsible driving going on at this event. I would not be surprised if more do not surface as time goes.

Did the accident happen because of irresponsible driving, unavoidable circumstances, equipment failure, excessive speed, or a combination of some or all. I think it's too soon for us to know or we may never know. What is known is that two people lost their lives and thats a pure shame.

It is my understanding to get the max speed out of a cat, you some what let the boat drive its self. The more you work it the less speed you will have. In other words unlike a vhull you just don't cut the wheel. Not saying the guys buzzing the spectators were in the right just curious from actual cat owners.

The old Apache/Maelstrom had a an adjustable wing in the front of it. That boat stuffed, as everyone knows the video. Conditions were obviously very rough as well.. Seems if this were a downfall/defect in the design and history repeated itself it wouldn't be well received. I get that the event happened damn near 30 years ago, and technology has changed with all the latest crash systems/sensors/BUS systems blahblah. But on the road just as I assume it would/could work on the water; if youre out of control there is only so much a computer can do.

Just curious does the LC poker run require its captains/owners to carry a minimal liabily insurance for their boats?
