Where would you rather live (warm/cold temps)
I'm looking for opinions on if "all things were equal" where would you prefer to live, please lets don't bash, that's not what I'm looking for, I'm just curious what most people would say and where they would rather live.
I still LOVE my home state Missouri and of course LOTO, I was wondering if most people like the colder weather with winter or if you liked it warmer with no winter. |
Somewhere in the Caribbean. Even better, several places in the Caribbean :drink:

Born in and lived my entire 49 years in the armpit of America which is the state if ILL. The only nice time of year here is now in the fall. I first went to LOTO in the summer of '77 and fell in love with it. Been going there regularly the last 15 years. Like it way better than IL. Still, not sure I would retire there even though I do like the change of season from summer to fall. First started going to Florida in the late 70's. PCB, Ft. Meyers, Sanibel, etc More recently made my way to the Tampa/St. Pete and Clearwater area. Have only been to South Beach and Daytona on the Atlantic side and to Key West once. I've got to say if I had a chance I would be living in the Cape Coral area right now. I've got to put in another 8 years at the sweatshop before I can make the move, though.

I like having 4 seasons. In the mid-atlantic you can boat 8 mos. (longer if you are REALLY want too) out of the year. Winter is not too bad and summer is not oppressively hot for months on end.
|
Love Chicago because of Lake Michigan and downtown.
I like going to the Ozarks, but I would get bored living there I was just in Virginia Beach for work and really liked it there to,,,, would consider living out east |

My pick is the Carolinas. I love the Charlotte NC area and Lake Norman. If I had the $$, I'd buy a home on Lake Norman or one of the big SC lakes. Not as hot as FL in the summer and not horribly cold in the winter. Can almost boat year round.

I love it here in Clearwater where I have been most life.
My GF fell in love with LOTO and I do say I liked it there. All things equal though I love my white sand beaches here. I do wish though they would open more boat pull up friendly places here. There shockingly isn't much to pick from over here. |
Maryland is awesome for boating in the summer and Loto is awesome too. But for the winter i cant wait to head to florida for the winter.
|
How about the best of both worlds :) The Cape Coral /Ft Myers area in the winter/Spring and Lake Cumberland/Indy in the summer really has us always looking forward to the next season.
|
Michigan and it's 4 seasons are what i prefer, also lived in Ft.Lauderdale and Yuma Arizona, both were too freakin hot !!!

New york , June - October , then in Nov- April somewhere in the far south would be ideal ????

Michigan! Most beautiful clear freshwater in the world! Tons of options for boating. Look on a map, no where else even comes close to the GREAT LAKES! Simply amazing!
4 Seasons are beautiful, especially If you CHOOSE To embrace them and Enjoy them. While living here I can enjoy traveling around the country but would not enjoy living anywhere else full time. http://i1140.photobucket.com/albums/...ursion/114.jpg |
I use to love the winter and the epic back woods mountain skiing that came with it .

Given the fact I am self-employed I have a 5 year plan.
In a NORMAL real estate market I have about zero business from June 1st-Sept 1st as people assess hurricane season. That scenario would(will) allow me to head to LOTO for Memorial Day and return to S Fla. right after Labor Day. I watch the market there weekly and figure a nice townhouse with a dock will work out real well. |

Even though we still love and miss LOTO and the Midwest the fantastic weather down here helps me with it, we'll save a place down here for you, if you're ever down this way give a shout, I know a guy with a boat.

Colder than a well diggers azz , no problem . Now at age 57 , not so much . I just wana do this . Sure it gets a little warm 3 months of the year, but if you watched the temps this summer in other areas of the US, the Tampa Bay area was not that hot, and there is at least a good Gulf breeze on most days. Of course if it gets too hot for normal boating you can just fire up the small jet boat and cruise up the spring fed rivers with their nice cool and clear waters and find your own private paradise to beat the heat....75 degree fresh water feels great on a 90+ degree day!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lxFiu4zekwQ Cheers, Dave |
I love living in michigan. I dont mind winter, but now that I no longer snowmobile.... the Upper Peninsula michigan winters get a little long...., with too short of a spring to get the boat ready for a short boating season. If I had my choices of places to go, I'd go to charlevoix/boyne city area of michigan, followed by destin flordia. I just dont know if I could handle the summer heat of flordia. The one week a year we see 90 degrees, is enough for me.
It would be real hard to give up driving past lake superior every morning on the way to/from work, picturing my fountain blasing across the horizon......on both rough and calm days. That and boating on lake michigan is great, little boat traffic, places to go, and your not confined to a 10 mile area. |
besides the taxes new york has great boating and snowmobiling. im a fan of the 4 seasons. by the end of summer im ready to put the boat away and drag the sleds out. end of winter im ready to put the sleds away and drag the boat out. being able to boat 12 months out of the year i think would lose its excitement but thats just me. i use spring and fall for work so i can afford my winter and summer addictions
|
Give me the warmth. I do love the Chesapeake bay for boating. Haven't been to loto yet. Have lived in maryland for 25 years. Huntington Beach California for 3. Panama City beach for 2. Cape Coral for 3. Cali's weather is untouchable. If housing prices were lower and boating was better I'd be there. I like having places on the water to go by boat.
So full time I like southwest florida. It has a good mix of everything and don't have cold winters at all. |
Love the 4 seasons of Michigan! Love my snowmobiling, snowboarding, and of course boating! So many places to see on the water with the Great Lakes, Although I wouldn't mind if summer was a tad bit longer but it's all good.
|
What brought this question on was someone "twisted" my comments and said I was bashing the Midwest and LOTO, we'll for the record I LOVE LOTO and Missouri, but just not a big fan of ice/snow and cold weather and I like to see the sun on a consistent basis, so we bought a place down here so we can have the best of both worlds.
I think it's cool that people like doing cold weather stuff like snowmobiling and skiing, I'd rather stay warm, but if I don't like it and I voice my opinion don't bash me. I hope to see a lot of you down here this season, it's almost here, gonna be a great time. |

Same here!! (although not quite 57 yet :-) My only regret is not moving to Florida full time sooner.

This is why, FLORIDA all the way, baby! I've lived here since 1990, and wouldn't live anywhere else. You get used to the heat in the summer, if you get outside and sweat. If you stay inside in the summer, you will never get used to the heat. I grew up in upstate NY, 30 miles from the US-Canada border, so I USED to know what real COLD was like.....

Usually the gators don't like the cold waters of the Weeki Wachee and stay in the warmer marshes...at least that is what I tell my wife. The 6' plus Garfish are another story, kinda scary when they pass right by you in that clear water. Of course the Manatees do bump the little boat on occasion as they pass by in the shallow waters, but that just adds to the fun.. Still a great getaway on occasion and a change up from the normal Island/key hopping in the Gulf. Cheers, Dave |
I get the question all the time, i love it up here and i think the Great Lakes is some of the best boating anywhere. I also like the change in seasons and dont mind the cold one bit in fact i actually like driving in deep snow (all i have ever had is 4x4 suv's and trucks) truth be told i need the five months off to fix all the crap i broke in the summer (yes i said five months, we start in the cold and end in the cold :D)
If i ever have the means though i would have a place on the west / south west coast of FLA and winter there. I would and, always will, call the great lakes home though . . . . |

Maybe this cropped down teaser will tide you over until I get the right shots worthy of the Boater Girl thread!. http://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-13...4/AD-Gold2.jpg Back on topic, seeing hot girls in bikinis all year is reason enough to live in Florida...and just like the great boating, that never gets "old" !! Cheers, Dave |
I'm thinking most folks would love the have place back at home (where they grew up) and if it's a cold weather city would want a warm place for the winter months, that's what we're doing, but some people just can't be happy for others that get their dream, I'm thrilled for them when someone gets their dream boat or house, other not so much,........................................ mean people just SUCK.

New Jersey, 4 seasons.

I get tired of the snow, moving two lots of cars and plowing all the time gets old.Spring, summer and fall are awesome up here. I do enjoy snow shoeing with wife and dog, I love to visit Florida, just not ready to put up with all the people packed in. Enjoy my open air!!
