I was 16 when my grandpa gave me my first boat. It was 1972 16' Del Magic tri hull with a 1969 80hp mercury motor. I loved that boat! Going on 23 years now and have owned too many to count.

First boat, 1992 Chris Craft 208 w/OMC 5.0 / Cobra Drive, was a good boat except the Cobra shifter was a PIA.
Second boat, 1998 24 Superboat w/454 Mag MPI, later repowered with 496HO, Current boat, 2006 30 Superboat, w/525efi |
My first boat was a 1986 Sea Ray Pachanga with a SBC and Alpha One outdrive. Bought it in Maine, and trailered it all the way home to Texas with my lowered Titan lol.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...0/DSCN0012.jpg Was a great boat, but when the wife said "I think we should get something bigger", I jumped at the chance and ended up in the Heat. :) Score one for the home team. |
When I was 12 years old my 11 year old brother and I went halves on a 14' alumacraft with a 9.9 evinrude. The next summer we repowered with a 25 horse Johnson which turned that old boat into a rocket ship (of sorts). We could even slalom water ski behind that baby with the 25 horse. Lots of great memories were made in that old boat.

First boat was a 1976 Larson Cabin Crusier, floors were rotted and it didn't run worth a darn. I hated that boat if i could have sold it i would have gotten out of boating for good.
After I couldn't sell it I traded it in on a new 1990 Regal Valanti only new boat I have ever owned. 12 boats later I am still broke... wish I could have just sold that first one...:) |
1988 280 Baja 330hp 454's have never looked back since.

98' Powerquest 220 Targa SX. 454 MPI w/Bravo drive. Boat was really nice, great for days on Lake Ere with little to no chop, otherwise the sit down seats beat the hell out of you. No tabs and chine walked at top speed of 59.8 MPH. First mod was installing a Simrek Drive Shower and K&N filter. Still went 59.8 MPH, Hahah! My parents had mid to late 1950's Chris-Crafts when we were growing up in the 70's, so the Powerquest was referred to "as one of those boats" by them, little did they know. Buying that Powerquest was a good thing for me, I learned a lot without getting in too deep. I wouldn't trade the experience for anything. If you watch UFC you might recognize the guy on the left, the guy on right is the guy behind the keyboard

1971 Mark Twain tri-hull with a Johnson 125. My brother and I bought it off the neighbors. I remember thinking that was a rocket. My first "fast" boat was a 16 foot 1974 Switzer hugger with a 150 Merc tower of power with 115 hp stickers on it. Speedometer said 62 mph...I thought I was king sh** until a guy named Emil came around me in a 21 Switzer with a 235 Johnson. Many other boats from that until now. Later, Dave
