It's not required in Michigan unless there is a lien holder on it. I've always had my boats insured though. But $3,700 up is ridiculous. Maybe the affordable boat act will save us all money on boat insurance.

In NY we do not need insurance. I have a Wakezone policy on my Formula, I roll the dice with no insurance on my 1996 Sea Doo GTI.

I carry an umbrella & personal protection policy. When I did the application for those policies the first thing State Farm asked for is a copy my boat insurance policy.

A primary boat policy is required for a liability umbrella policy.

My bud told me he has Farmers insurance for his 26 AO cat . Very reasonable rates is what he told me . Myself I'm grandfathered with Nationwide at a terrific rate .
