GOPRO camera advise

I am wanting to get myself a GOPRO for Christmas. I an somewhat confused. There is the white, silver, and black editions. Then there is the gopro2 and gopro3 of each. Who has used them and which one is the best bang for your buck ? Wanting to take boat vids. Thanks.....

The white, silver, and black editions are 2012 models, everyone is trying to unload those for Christmas. Walmart has the White edition for $200.00 this coming Black Friday. The newest model is the Hero3+ (smaller/better than all the rest). Not the cheapest $375.00, but the best bang. Go on Go-Pro's website and check them out.

Hero 3 black is all you need..., buy a charger or second battery however... it sucks down the power if you use the wifi. I really like the wifi option since you can turn it off/on.. review the video, etc all on your phone/tablet with the Go pro app.

I have the original and I HATE the wind noise it picks up. Have yall had better luck with the newer ones?

Id much rather here the engine than the wind in this video

Just get the newest and best version. How can you go wrong with that?

:D Great products.

TeamCeilis....Noise depends on the cover you use.. the waterproof cover=no wind noise

Here are just a few basics to help you decide among them:

The Hero3 WHITE edition ($200) is the entry level version, and offers recording up to 30 frames per second at 1080p, and 60 fps at 720p.

The Hero3+ SILVER edition ($300) gets you up to 60 frames per second at 1080p and 120 fps at 720p. Those higher frame rates are much, much better if you record lots of fast action (e.g. wakeboarding) and want to slow down the footage for playback.

The Hero3+ BLACK edition ($400) primarily adds 4K recording capability and includes a Wi-fi remote. (The White and Silver are Wi-fi capable, but don't include the remote, which can be purchased separately for $80.) Don't fall into the trap of thinking you need or want 4K. There are very few TVs currently available that can play such footage, and they're very expensive. Also, the 4K is only recorded at 15 frames per second, which will be choppy upon playback (like security surveillance camera footage). Finally, 4K is extremely demanding when it comes to editing the footage on a computer, so if your computer isn't very powerful or you don't have lots of memory (16GB at a minimum) in it, the computer will slow to a crawl, and probably crash repeatedly.

Thus, it kind of boils down to (1) do you want a higher frame-rate recording capability (if yes, go with the Silver or Black) and (2) do you want to be able to control the camera with a Wi-fi remote (if yes, you might as well get the Black since it includes the remote, and it'll give you a few extra features such as better low-light performance that could prove useful to you at times).

Sony, Garmin and others offer action cameras, but GoPro is definitely the market leader. I have one of the early GoPros, and I still find it to be a helluva camera.

Hope this helps.

This pretty much sums it up. The only thing I would add is that the White and Silver editions can be controlled via Wi-Fi with the app, which is free for a smart phone or tablet. That's how I control mine. The app allows you to see what you are filming.
