So what motors are you running and how fast can you run? I'm thinking my next boat will be a fountain around 30 something feet long with twin 525's. What could I expect with a setup like that?

32 sensation 496 ho's... four adults, one teen, cooler full of beverages, 3/4 tank of fuel, half tank of fresh water, hot summer humid day down south, 80 tops. easy 75-78 anytime with that load. get her light...86

Back in the day when the deep vee was a new idea, they tested every combination of strakes they could think of. One day a tester came in and said...This is it, we have finally found the right combination. They hauled the boat out of the water and discovered that all of the strakes on one side of the boat had fallen off. The strakes were movable strips of wood that they just screwed on and moved around the bottom for testing. So much for the best design.

Charlie,, Ohhh. I don't know.. !! ?? I'm pretty happy with my,, (yours) 3,4,5 strake design. :)

I am in Florida now for the winter, maybe I can get a ride in that old 3 4 5 boat of yours in the New Year. |

SilverHook Powerboats
Below is information about SilverHook, a brand new boat designed based upon Nigel’s racing experience coupled with Ocke Mannerfelt’s brilliance as a naval architect.
Over the last 35 years, Nigel has raced many offshore monohulls. The list includes H-Craft, Manta, Reindl, Vector, Activator, Scarab, Skater, Outerlimits, and Fountain; and he has tested many others including Buzzi, Hustler, Sutphen, Tremlett, Warlock, and Eliminator. For their 2010 season, Nigel and Michael Silfverberg built a canopied version of the Mannerfelt Design Team’s pleasure boat, the Vector. After racing the Vector in 2010, both Nigel and Michael were confident with Ocke’s design style so they commissioned him to design a slimmer, more streamlined ship. Their goal was to engineer the fastest, most efficient monohull available today. Nigel advocates that a longer boat will optimize rough water handling because you cannot replace length of wetted surface. Ocke and Nigel deliberated on the ideal length and came to the agreement on 41' 6" (as UIM measures the hull) (for comparison the 43 Outerlimits similarly measured is 39' 10"). The dimensions needed to be longitudinal, in Nigel’s previous experience narrower proportions performed best, and so they agreed on slim beam of 8' 4". The design was a joint effort between Nigel & Michael, the Mannerfelt Design Team and Mystic Powerboats. Ocke kicked off the design effort using CAD software and then those CAD files were exchanged between Ted Mannerfelt and John Cosker. You will see Ted’s Jaguar car experience in the E-type attributes of the deck design and also how the Mystic safety canopy and cockpit design flows down into the bustle. Anyway, after several exchanges, their joint CAD file was sent to a Formula1 team to be run through the wind tunnel CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) analysis. The CFD resulted in some fine-tuning to improve the bow. Marine Concepts used the modified CAD files to mill the plugs and create the molds. And final step was for Mark Bishop to do the structural design calculations and engineering. The first SilverHook hull is a carbon composite laminated by Mystic Powerboats. After racing SilverHook for 3 years, Nigel is absolutely convinced this is the best V-hull available today and we would love to get a 2nd one on the water. Is anyone else a believer in this state-of-the-art design? www.SilverHook.com Janet [email protected] |
[QUOTE=sprink58;4038769 ...the 382/Top Gun owner told me his comparisons were made on two different trips between Miami and Cape Coral thru the Keys in the winter. That trip can deliver anything from 6-8' Gulfstream Back Breakers.....
A 382 Formula would never keep up with a 39 Top Gun in that water.....and if it did, the TV, stereo, sink and microwave would all be on the floor in the center of the cabin broken. Both nice boats built for different reasons....But no comparison in 4ft+ ocean waters. |
