Eddie

We have also seen 571 hp out of a bone stock 525, so again your 565 hp number is pretty close. We have even run them on 89 octane and 93 octane and really havent seen a differance if any.

I've heard from a couple people who've run them that they run worse on 93/89.

Pretty much any engine that doesn't require a higher octane fuel will not make any more power with that higher octane fuel. In some cases, it will make less power do to the slower burn rate.

The headers are fine on that year model. Rather, let's say that they are much less prone to failing. You still need to keep an eye on the tails for signs of cracking and leaking.

I haven't been able to find out an exact answer on when/where/how many got out with the rockers with the faulty bearings. I have seen bad ones on a 2004, as well as on a 2009 engine. Not all of them are failing. All the ones I have seen have had at least 150 hours. By that time, the rockers were either failing, or showing signs of imminent failure. If you pull the valve covers, you can easily check your rocker arms. Look at the center of the rocker arm. If there is any anodizing missing on either side of the poly-lock, then it's on it's way out. As the bearings go, the rocker arm will kick sideways a little and cause it to rub the poly-lock.

It's not that the Crane Gold rocker arms are bad pieces, cause they certainly are not. They just had some crappy bearings that got put in their rockers. I can't say when or how many got out. The easiest and safest way is to just lift the covers and check them. If you have over 100 or so hours and they don't show any signs of failure, I wouldn't sweat it. They should be fine if they made it that far. Hope that helps clear it up some.

After hearing all the issue , we change ours out mid season just to be safe. It cheap enough, not to have to worry about doing some serious damage.

I agree in that it is cheap insurance for the piece of mind. I was just wanted to let it be known that it may not be absolutely necessary to replace them.
I agree with you guys changing them considering the way you run them.

I've got 440 hours on both of my '03 525's. The previous owner said they have never had any problems. They are stock and still run strong. It sure is scary reading all this. I definitely need to open them up and investigate.

Lots of good info. Thanks for all the helpful comments. Got me thinking to check my 525's this spring. Mine are 2006 or 2007 with 150 hours now. No problems yet that I know about......I've only put the last 50 hours on the boat since purchasing.
