When we were dropping the boat off we had a call that we had a very sick dog at home. We needed to get home so called Eddie to see if we could drop the boat off that evening instead of the next morning. Eddie met us at 9:30 that night even though he was leaving the next morning on vacation.

Great service and a nice guy.

Thanks Patrick. We are getting close on the engine. Should be on the dyno next week. I'll keep you posted on the progress. As for meeting you late at night, that's not a problem. We do whatever we can to make it happen.
Talk soon.

I'm not the least bit familiar with the current SBI, OPA, OSS, etc. rules. However, I don't see why changing the valve springs and rocker arms (as long as they are the same ratio) would cause an issue. The rockers will give no performance gain at all, unless the old ones were broken. In that case, any rocker arm will give a performance gain. I could see where replacing the heads, as well as several other items, could be illegal. That would and should be spelled out in the rules. Honestly, they would have no easy way of determining which springs were on the engine anyway.

I'm sure there is someone out there with a better grasp of the rule book than I have. Maybe they will chime in on replacement parts.

SBI goal is to keep 525's to the same spec., but use parts that are more reliable and more cost affective where possible. If something doesnt fit in the same parameters then it can NOT be used. If parts that Merc uses, are avalible and can be bought after maeket and not from Merc ONLY then that is what is needs to be used.

Eddie on your dyno what HP numbers do you see from a stock sealed 525 or a fresh rebuilt 525 back to stock specs with no modifications?

Young Performance 12-26-2013 09:32 AM

Everyone that I have seen or talk to others about have seen 525's in the 545-560 hp area.

Thanks, I'm working on it. The web hosting company send a re-newel notice after my hosting contract was already expired. Meantime, another hosting company grabbed my web address and wants $400 to release it. I'm fighting with them now over it. I don't want to get screwed, but I also don't want to change my web address. I paid the hosting fee immediately, so it sucks that they grabbed my address that quick. I'll get it worked out one way or another.
Thanks for the heads up though.

In your opinion if you rebuilt a stock 525 and punched it out .030 over, bumped the compression to 9:1 and had unlimited ECM parameters what kind of HP do you believe it could make reliably? Keeping all the other components the same spec's as stock (no head work other than a fresh valve job)

Young Performance 12-26-2013 05:29 PM

You would really be limited without doing a port work to the heads. They aren't great in the first place. You also wouldn't be able to do much with the camshaft since it is on the verge of reverting now. If you went dry on the exhaust, you could put a little more in the cam to help crutch the heads some. Not the most ideal thing. I would expect around 600-615 hp.
