You'll actually be best running marine diesel or kerosene since jet A is hard to find on the water and you'll be using it a lot. Naturally you're going turbine power, right?

Forget race fuel, use E85, it's way better and way less

Call Ginger or Glenn and get it bought. Then just add skanks and neon light and be like the one on Texoma

freaking dream boat right there....

Tborisch 01-07-2014 03:16 PM

lol.. It's painful to follow this thread!

Go buy a 24 skater w/ 280's... Learn to drive that. It will save your life, or kill you and save you a lot of money. If you can drive a 24.. you can drive anything :)

Best of luck.

Skaters are gorgeous boats - but as mentioned at the beginning of this post - come nowhere close to being what I want. The individual who posted the 39 Aronow cat is dead on..

doc_texoma 01-08-2014 11:42 AM

Any reason a 30' Shadow Cat wouldn't fall into the realm of what I'm talking about? I saw another gentlemen here found one with running twin johnson v8's on it and got it for $2k... Yea, its going to need some resto work - but that seems like a reliable setup and has the big interior I am seeking as well...

Are they a relatively stable platform?

Those V8 Johnsons are fuel guzzlers and very high maintance. I honestly think your best option is to wait a couple more years and save up for a turn key boat that fits your needs and budget.

Well there you have it your search is over. Sorry but I have a hard time thinking you can get any large cat that is fast stable and reliable for $20k.

altamate 01-09-2014 09:04 PM

If all we had to do was come up with 20 grand, at least 1/2 the guys on this site would have a 30-40 foot cat.

doc_texoma 01-09-2014 09:05 PM

That post did absolutely zero to help answer the question that I asked... Thanks for playing.

doc_texoma 01-09-2014 09:10 PM

As far as my original question goes... It definitely does appear I can get into something like I want - but it is going to be in the realm of doing a restoration, which is just fine by me... A shadow cat looks like it will probably be the target... I also have stumbled into quite a few tunnel type "deck" boats of which a few are older and come close to my price target - allowing me to get into a sterndrive cat over 21 feet with lots of skank space while still looking somewhat cool and performing well.

I appreciate most of the responses as they were quite helpful and I learned a thing or two throughout this discussion and my research... I am going to finish the restoration on my VIllain IV first and then will look into the cat project...

Pics as I progress on each...

Thanks again - this is a great site!!

altamate 01-09-2014 09:25 PM

Sorry for not being more helpful, but I think your request is unreasonable. Like trying to buy a 67 Corvette for that money.

I have a suggestion, find a few in your price range, post picks and you'll get help on if it's a good one or not and what to watch out for.

Don't worry, no one is going to buy it out from under you because it's going to be a "work in progress" at that price.

wannabe 01-10-2014 05:41 AM

There's been a restored Chris Cat on Ebay that needs power and drives.....

Great hull as the Shadow cat is.

timmoore 01-10-2014 07:14 AM

I think Dave at Liberator boat has that Chris Cat. A friend of mine was talking to him and he mentioned it.
Think I've got a picture somewhere.
Doc... Liberator is in Crowley so you could go look at it.

timmoore 01-10-2014 07:26 AM

Here they are... When my buddy was talking to him Dave said he would take $12,000 for it. New gel coat, new interior, no power.

Still one of my favorite old school cats. With some 540's and arneson's, this girl will hustle

doc_texoma 01-10-2014 05:25 PM

exactly the type of boat i am seeking.. is that a chris cat?

doc_texoma 01-10-2014 05:26 PM

TimMoore - thanks!

doc_texoma 01-10-2014 05:27 PM

Since it was brought up earlier in the thread - I am assuming Skater 24's are dangerous? Prone to stuffing? Or is it just a very high speed hull and people get into trouble with it? (or all of the above?) Its not the boat I'm looking for - but I might as well learn something...

doc_texoma 01-10-2014 05:32 PM

http://www.liberatorperformanceboats...k_003_ot7u.jpg

This is off of that Liberator website in crowley.. What model is this... That is freaking gorgeous.. Solid white - and looks fast, big and stable - but something tells me it isnt cheap at all!!!! :)

-----

Just spoke with Dave at Liberator.. Its a 30... I'm going to take a look at the Chris this weekend most likely.

Cobra100+ 01-10-2014 06:43 PM

Doc, if you are really serious about owning a 30 or larger cat that Chris cat is a steal 600hp a side will get you 100mph all day and stable as it gets.

jeff32 01-10-2014 07:13 PM

100 with 600's??? really?

jeff32 01-10-2014 07:19 PM

if this red cat was closer to me, chances are I would have snap it! just don't feel like paying for that much travel...:(

I have owned sport boats and also a 32 Chaparral Laser which was basically a cruiser with semi go-fast looks .. Wasn't very fast - but I do have some larger boat experience.

I really like the way cats look - but I am not looking to race one, want something bigger than just 5 people - possibly with cuddy's in the sponsons.. Don't want to wrench it anymore than I would a boat with a single 5.7 unmodded merc in it, and don't want to go over $20k for sure in purchasing.

Yes, I know I could find something beat up and needing a new transom, power, etc to likely meet my guidelines but I would prefer to get something that I could at least use while I rebuild.

To top it all off something like the Aronow 39, or maybe that elusive Wellcraft Cougar Cat (not the excalibur) are a couple that I have found that LOOK like they might meet my needs - but of course both are rare and at least the Aronow, is WAY over $20k...

This may be an unattainable goal - and if so, I can stick to V hull's.. Just thought I would throw it out there...

Thanks!

Doc

Man that red Chris Cat is sweet. I dare say but that Conquest deck has got to be one of the nicest looking cats ever. Right up there with Petes 36 . . . . timeless and legendary

Wonder how they run with Arnesons . . . . oh like say . . . the pair of ASD6's on my parts self :D

And your response was asinine.

Very obviously my post has made sense because a very good answer to my question (or incoherent rambling as you so wisely say) was provided in the form of the Chris Cat just south of me for sale.

If you don't like what I post, then stay the F**k off of the topic.

Randy Nielsen 01-11-2014 07:45 PM

A buddy of mine has a Chris Cat with around 800hp per side with #5s and it cruises @95-100 without even breathing hard. Randy However the cockpit is not big enough for more than 5 or 6 people

LOL, I knew this was coming... you Texas Texoma boy's are so predictable. Congratulations on the Chris Cat, And no I will not stay off your threads. I just didn't want you to feel left out. I bust all my Texoma buddies balls. If you need any help with your new ride let me know, I'll come help out. See you on Texoma Doc and you better have a beer for me and keep a tow rope handy for me too or I won't be so nice next time. I'll be putting around in this OE Cat. ;) That is if we ever get through wrenching on it!

VV: I ran www.texomapartypirates.com for quite some time (NOT lakepirate.com) ... I am absolutely happy to do anything to enhance the Texoma scene - and I apologize if I misread your response to my post and missed the humorous tone of it.. I'm simply not one who is afraid to ask questions.. Its how I've made my way through life for the most part.

I most assuredly will share any and all libations that I have on board with you or anyone else at Texoma.. I used to deliver Jello Shots via an RC boat to other boats around the cove at Deer Cove..

I'm very seriously considering rekindling the texoma message board I used to run since I'm going to have at least the Villain IV on the water soon.

If nothing else we can wrestle around in the sand some. :)
