Default Ocean Express Project

Here is the "OL Skool" 33' extended to 35' As per race rules back in the day Ocean Express project we are tackeling.
This is a bare hull not one wire in it. Sit down config.
#6 SSM's, Bam 1500 Trannies, SuperCat race motors and Wipple 3.3 carb bowers .
Gimbals are ready for epoxy primer and paint , and the engines are about 85% ready, then we can start on the boat once the engines are dynoed and the gimbals are together.

I take it that the "old school extensions" are in the sponson tips? We did the same thing to a supposedly 24' Checkmate back in the day to make it APBA A class legal after a protest. The next year they outlawed the Fountain beak we added.

You are correct. Sponson tip extensions.
You older guys like me will recognize these OE's well known in the race circuit.
Surface drives were out of our price range, Bravo drives would be faster, we settled on the #6's for reliability. We are looking at 800-850 HP with our engines. With the #6's we have to option to go higher in HP later on if we think we need more but our main goal in this build is to build a real reliable boat that we can hour out on without breaking parts.

I Completely stripped and redid a pair of #6 Gimbals same as you have there.

I had them re-dipped in ( Alodine ) same as mercury does
to protect the aluminum against corrosion.

If you go this route have all your sanding done first!
Also all hard ware needs to be removed including the studs.

Turned out beautiful!!
