Someone please post the NOAA from that day. Who cares if they did not actually video the 15' waves they still existed further out.

For everyone judging this video go make your own rough water video. High speed video. Sweet off road hill climb video. Mountain bike jump video. Etc. Then try watching it and see how LAME they always turn out. Video never does it justice.

I agree. WHY are the facts actually important here? Going on speculation, assumptions and opinions is what seems to work on OSO most of the time. I will boycott this thread is I start to see anything that resembles logic and factual information.

Go-Pro with a "fish-eye" lens... Works 60% of the time, all the time. Not with your wife, though, sir. I've never even met her.

That's right - go on the NOAA website and find the day that had at least 15 ft waves. Then tell everyone here that was the day.
I still say NO WAY anywhere close to 15 ft waves.

Earlier posts indicate video was taken with an iPhone, so the original would probably have a geotag and datestamp .
Anybody know if the metadata gets embedded into the YouTube video when uploaded?
I wouldn't count on it being there. Likewise, if I were the person that posted the video, I wouldn't stake my reputation on just picking a suitable NOAA report and claiming that was the day in question.

Regardless, Scott from Pier 57 spoke up, took the beating, and called solid 8's on the wave conditions, as opposed to the video which claimed 15's, but apparently wasn't posted by him.

outlawten5 01-26-2014 01:02 AM

My ex-wife would agree those waves were less than 8

kwb 01-30-2014 04:33 AM

It looked choppy with some 3-4 footers in there, but all boaters exaggerate .... :). Need to run fast in that stuff, stay on top of it. I "ran" my 42 Cig in 15-18 footers before (actual 18 foot swell). There is no getting on plane, you are literally climbing hills up and down. No forward visibility when in the trough. There was a hurricane in Mexico one year and we got a huge swell in Newport Beach CA near the wedge. It was crazy...... Ah the good ol days .....

dont use a fish eye lens, just a good wide angle lens, the fish eye lens distorts things to much... trust me i know...
