That run was one of my favorites, I still hear people talk about it to this day and heard several people (no names mentioned) say they don't know how we run in water like that, LOL.
Although we could not catch Mike Fiore going downtown in the 46 OL with 1075's, we held our own in the 38 with 525's and had an absolute blast that day. great pics, I have only seen one of those three. Email them to me if you would not mind - [email protected]

You guys all have the words from THE GUY DRIVING THE BOAT. I think he has some experience with trim, as well...these pics are from the Chicago Poker Run in 2006. Scott and Wyatt in a 38 Fountain in typical tossed Lake Michigan 4-6 footers. Trust me...if the waves were 8', there would not have been many boats out that day, as there's really not much fun in driving when the boat is acting like the 46 in the video. I have tried it in 5-7s(oh yeah I remember that marine forecast!) in my 35 Fountain....couldn't go over 25 mph (wife had called me a wimp and really wanted to get to the city for the Chicago Scene Boat Party...when we got there, she said maybe it wasn't the best idea...)
My vid coming back from Key West in 2012 in the AT got criticized all the hell on here saying the waves weren't 6 footers...but we could only run about 30 mph, and I couldn't see out of the troughs...the waves were well over Pat's head, and he's 6' tall. I'm just happy he was driving...

2006 and 2007 were the bumpy ones. Off the top of my head...delaminated, broken stringers on a Nor-tech cat, two delaminated Skaters, hullside blown out on a 38 Flatdeck, anchor pierced hull through locker on a 42 Fountain, deck separated from hull on a 38 Formula, busted mirror, icebox on BZs 42 Fountain, Zastrow almost sank his MTI after a hose was pounded off, Payton was knocked to the floor of my Fountain and had back surgery later...and I'm sure there was more. I heard that Poker Face Baja was stress-cracked all to hell after this run...that dude ran the CRAP outta that boat...

With all do respect to some of the posts; I been boating on the Mich for decades. And yessss, it does get pretty nasty, worse then any ocean waters I been on, but no way the vid day had 10-15's. It's just a ted funny that apparently most boaters have no clue of what actual wave size means or how to judge it accurately or at lease "reasonably" accurately. For some.... rough 3-4's feels or they thing it 8-10's. Google wave dynamics and learn the terminology, prior to making some comments that has no real value, or accuracy regarding "wave" descriptions. All that being said.. the Mich can dish up the worse waters just about anywhere.

This graph explains how to measure a wave. A 15' wave would swallow a pleasure boat pretty good and boats as big as a ferry usually ordered to stay docked.

I always thought waves were measured half the distance from the trough to the crest, however NOAA states differently.

I remember a trip when I was 14 from lake st clair to Georgian Bay in my dads 272 formula. When we headed across Lake Huron we got caught in a storm about midpoint. We were running with a 41 stinger, 40 Excalibur, and a 32 baja. When in the trough everything disappeared, land, boats, everything. I had on my life vest and crapping myself! I would have said they were 15' waves but come to find out they were 6'-8' with occasional bigger. Huge rollers. We were small enough to fit between the waves, while the 40's were stuffing just about every wave! Both lost windshields!
