Question:

So what is the best rough water boat anyway>?

I'm thinking about buying the 55 MTI when I finish painting my 40 skater. Will I be able to launch the MTI off 50' waves? I heard cats can handle 90% of their length in wave height as long as you are "packing - the -air" or something like that

EDIT:in case it's not obvious, the sarcasm switch is ON

I wont comment on the video or what it looks like but I will say this....

Every time we have a rough water race, Im excited to see the video...and it NEVER looks as rough as it really was. Its really annoying actually.
Even if it isnt 15s...I bet its rougher than hell in that boat

47 Apache for Vee bottom. 46 Skater for a Cat are my two guesses. Beautiful powerboats indeed!

Oh and to answer how big were they? If you had a video I'm sure the majority here would say 2-3s at most. Come on, it's only Lake Erie.

This is what 4' with whitecaps in the Georgia Strait looks like We had small craft warning with 20-25 knots wind

This run was in between 1-3' at Lighthouse Park in Burrad Inlet [ Vancouver] waves typically very close and confused coming at 2-3 different directions making it a hard ride. Reggie F ran a 38' diesel cruiser at the very same spot one time and he commented on how chitty the ride in confused water here compared to widely spaced rollers in the ocean.

I was in wicked won in that run and they were 3-4s. Anyone who thinks they were out on Lake Michigan running in 8-10s is high as a kite. Whoever was driving that 46 needs to learn how to trim a boat

It's a loaded question. If high speed isn't a priority, I'd pick a 38 or 44 Magnum myself. Guy I know converted a shaft driven 38 to KaMeWa jets commuting between Vancouver to Queen Charlotte Island. I'd take that boat over any of the topgun offshore boats and stay relatively dry.
