The whole boating experience for me and my kids is spending every weekend on the boat. Its one big reason I got bigger boat. The marinas we visit usually have a pool, hot tub, grills, restaurants, plenty of bathrooms. No reason to spend $$ on a room.
. ..and I took the crapper out and put an AC , Nobodys taking a dump on my boat. Thats why you make a few cruiser friends or dig a hole in the sand if you`re not at the dock.
Memories are made on the boat not at a hotel

I have a standard porti potty on my boat with a enclosed head. I actually want to convert the setup to a pump out style. Theres many times we raft up out on the lake with other boats, not at a beach, in 30ft deep water. For myself, I have no problem pisssing into a bucket and dumping it overboard. But, there are times esp early in the season, the lake temps are bitter cold. Like hypothermia cold. If I told my better half she needs to hang her snatch off the slippery swim platform in front of a group of random people to go pee pee, well, that just doesnt go over well.
As far as taking a dump on the boat, that's a tough call. If I have the porti potti, and someone I (ME, MYSELF AND I) invited out, friend, friends wife, girlfriend, kids, etc, was in dire emergency, I'd allow them to use the porti potta. Unfortunately sometimes that happens, and I would never tell my guests to jump in icy waters to go take a dump, or hold it "or else". To me that's like inviting people over to your house for the day, and letting people drink and eat all day, and then tell them they are SOL if they need to use the bathroom.
I remember being tied up one time with a bunch of boats. A friend of mine had invited some random girls on his boat. Everyone was drinking, partying, having a good time. Except one girl. I noticed her sitting by herself on the boat, in the back seat. I initially asked her if she was ok, and she replied she isn't feeling good. I assumed sea sickness from the boats rocking. Couple minutes goes by, and the girl pukes over the side of the boat. This girl was not drunk. I again said "wtf, are you gonna be ok, are you seasick?". Her response was 'NO, I HAVE TO TAKE A ****T, AND THERE IS NOWHERE TO GO". I felt terrible for her, she was a pretty girl but she was green in color from being so sick, and totally embarrassed. I finally told my buddy, ''dude, you gotta take this girl back to land or find somewhere for her to use the bathroom" He untied and took her back to the harbor. That just so happened to be the day when my porti potti was sitting in the garage where I keep the boat. Otherwise, I woulda let her use it, bc I just felt horrible for her. She had to go so bad, that it made her vomit. So, it ruined her day, and ended the party early for others, because of a lack of bathroom facilities.
I have another couple that boats with us a lot. The talk of taking a dump on the boat has come up. I told him and his girl, ''my boat is your boat when your my guest. If you have to use the potti, don't sweat it. If you have to take an emergency dump, all I ask is that YOU clean the portipotti out.". I have a working sink with soap, toilet paper, and the proper chemicals for the toilet. At the end of the day, its just a boat!

Man, this thread is awesome!!! It started out as an AT vs. OL thread and turned into a toilet vs. non-toilet thread. I vote for the toilet, especially after a night of drinking!

Because this is how new people are brought into the go-fast boat world.

OK, OL or AT doesn't much matter when nature calls. Luckily, both my boats have a port-a-potty but I have some rules. Number 1, if a female friend or family member on our boat must go, then fine, they can use it. Don't miss! Dude's? Sorry, on our boat, if you're the type to get stage fright or we are in a situation that doesn't allow for standing on the back swim platform, (tie up) then I guess it's ok to use it. Then again, don't miss. Yes, you will have to kneel to keep the inertia to a minimum. Now, number 2, you better be family and it better be an emergency. The toilet be will lined; i.e., have a Pick-N'-Save bag ready to catch that magical surprise. I WILL NOT, be cleaning this out of a port-a-potty.
In conclusion, the OL has a molded swim platform which will must likely retain male-processed beer. Subsequently, the AT is a better choice.
