I agree in part with statement #1. We were told that motors that Fountain used were 1550's, I dont' it buy for a minute that there is NO guessing that the that Mercury 1650's won't be dialed up for the run, but how would any know except for the participants, so that is just speculation.

Statement #2, are you kidding me? An Outerlimits PRODUCTION boat? It is a custom builder, which makes custom boats, which we have been told on OSO are all laid up equally with the same bottom, so it is a custom canopied boat. That comparison is nonsense. And if it Joe Sgro's boat, and I like Joe, his boat is anything but production (that is speculation on my part), but what is our definition of PRODUCTION? Formula is a production boat builder, OL is not.

I think OL will break the record, but as many have said, it was growing tiresome through years on OSO hearing about how the OL camp would win in Super V, and year after year nothing but failure, how OL is the fastest, and the crying when Stu Hayim broke the record for the run around Long Island by the OL people, so now maybe in a one boat field the OL will find a way to rise to the top. I feel fairly certain the OL boat will break the record, all it takes is money, engineering, horsepower, testing, and the guts to drive it, and Joe Sgro (if he is driving) is pretty fearless behind the wheel of boat. I loved it when he ran the 27' Manta Fever in B class back int he day, that man can drive a boat.....

In all fairness I would be proud to own an OL, I just would not be a blow-hard about it!

I always enjoy your posts smarty… and with that said…

1. I agree that I cannot definitively say those 1650's will not be juiced. However, lets assume this is 2014 and if OL/Mercury wants… they can plug the motors in and tell if they've been juiced.

2. Im not kidding you. OL can say they're a custom builder all they want, but at the end of the day OL hasn't been a custom builder in quite a few years. All the boats essentially look the same. It's not like they're putting out crazy bussels/theme boats like MTI, Skater, and Nortech. I'd say the most "custom" OL get these days are the interiors. All the bottoms are the same.

I do agree with most people here. If OL doesn't at least break 180mph (average 2 way passes), it will be a huge disappointment.

LOTO Shootout course is not setup or certified to establish a KILO record. Dave Scott posted once on OSO what it took for him to get a course established and certified. I beleive you have to make a pass in both directions on the course within a specified amount of time to establish your average speed.

You should look closely or take a ride to the factory before you speak. OL is the only V bottom boat builder who is constantly changing styles and bottoms. Look at the V bottom builders who are left Cigarette, Nortech? lot going on over there. Just a note this speed record is not OL quest thats why it is headed up by other people.

For everyone on this thread stating it should be easy to break the record due to technological advances, ask yourself why then has no one touched Ken Warby's 317 MPH record set in 1978? Breaking Fountain's record is not a given and will not be easy. Best of luck to OL.

If you consider to be that picky on "CUSTOM" then the only real Builder would be Skater- no 2 boats are the same... Mti builds theme boats, not custom, all these models from the builders you mention are custom to customer choice... Fountain on the other hand was a Production type builder. Just look at the difference in number of boats built.

I agree with you and SV43bb on this. My point is the bottom is relatively the same their production 43 vs the 43 going for the Kilo record-- that is all.

Wasnt the only difference in the kilo fountain is it was cut down & laid up at Skater? Same bottom as production hulls tho?

You guys crack me up.

So my friend Ken Warby that set the outright water record 37 yrs ago does that mean it's easily broken? Funny cuz all that have tried have died.

How about my friend, Bob Wartingers O/B Kilo record set 25 yrs ago? Does that mean that my other friends preparing a record assault right now should not be taken seriously ? They have nothing to prove??

Put down the Cool Aid pitcher.

W/the little bit that I know about the offshore world, I've always though that the boys at O.L. have shown some of the brilliance it would take to redefine the vee bottom world and I would love to see them do it. Let alone build the most gorgeous offshore vee's I've ever seen.

I say go for it!

Gary

PS, Not to take anything away from what Reggie did. He talked the talk and then did the best of his ability to set up a true kilo attempt behind his shop and invited all comers. That my friends, is how it's done.
If you're mouth gets you into trouble, have the stones to throw down and have at it.
