Having been raised around boats there are many possibilities here, except to say my first real boat was a 1965 donzi 16. I bought it in 1974 the day after I got married. I used it to get to the cottage every weekend, raised 2 kids in it and never looked back:)

1963 Glasspar G3 (13.50 feet) with a 70 Mariner (came with a very tired 75 Evinrude). I was only 11! My late father started my training early who had a trawler at the time. I guess some kids play catch with their dad. We were a boating family all my life until he passed away suddenly three years ago. Man, the countless running hours (and props) jamming around the CA delta in that thing. Had it until I was 21 (I'm 40 now). Great memories.

Current boat is a Donzi Black Widow

Product Manager for ALLDATA (automotive repair data publisher/software company)

This is my first boat. It was raced by Glastron and ran in several marathons: Salton Sea, others. It had been converted to pleasure use (for the President of Glastron) when I bought it.
The deck was "wooden-art": built by Hallet and the hull was custom built by Glastron.

My first boat was in 1984 I purchased and rigged this STV with a EFI.
It weighed 425 lbs new. I pounded it and it hurt me. In the end I learned how to fly a boat. There is no boat that will chine walk on me.

Screamin' Seamen' 08-21-2007 10:17 PM

1978 Baja with a Jacuzzi jet and Butler McMaster 460 ford. Found out I bought a stolen bought and gave it back to the owner. I paid $2,800. Put another 6-700 into it because it neede a dist and intake gasket. Got to run it about 28 days. Got 100% of my money back from the guy I bought it from. Good thing it went away, the last time I used it I almost took it over backwards in rough water and high winds. I was 19 and dumb!

CCstinger260 08-21-2007 11:05 PM

17' TideCraft bass boat with about a 5' beam and a dead 150 Merc on it. Rebuilt it and ran the snot out of it for a couple years. That thing went about 60 with your hip joint level with the gunwhale. WFO all the time, no lanyard, no PFD, no brains, but survived anyway. Then one outing, my brother whipped me on a tube going about FT and tumbled me off. The wipeout was like the old skiing one they used to show on the Wide World of Sports opening. Every time I blinked for the next two hours I squirted lake water out from behind my eyeballs. Traded it off about a month later for a tri-hull so my wife would boat with me and I could leave my brother at the dock...

Started out at about 10 with a little 8 footer with a 6hp evenrude. first two weeks we were given oars and told to row to our hearts content, one we proved we could get home from any place in the bay we were given the motor.
Used to get it plaining about 15 mph
Moved up to a 13 ft whaler with a 40 hp evenrude till we fried the motor, threw on a merc 40 hp, and the mighty merc was born. we thought we were the coolest thing on the bay

Many boats and 35 years later I am visiting the old haunting grounds on cape cod with my Nordic, and i still feel like the coolest thing on the bay.
I hope I never grow up

PhantomChaos 08-21-2007 11:36 PM

14 years old and I had a 1985 Baja Scat Cat 12 footer. This was the biggest POS ever. With my 35 hp Merc, you had to lay on the bow to get it on plane. Once on plane, it went through waves instead of over them. Had to stop every few minutes to pump the water out.

mskisea 08-22-2007 09:14 AM

My 1st boat was purchased used in 1975 -- it was a 1969 Carlson/Glastron Challenger with a Merc 115 hp ---in 1978 I saved enough money to buy a new Merc 1500xs

ActiveThunder 09-11-2007 07:14 PM

I think it was a 12' (approx) Sea Nymph aluminum with a 5.5 Johnson.

Year? I never will tell, but JFK was prez.

Mercury_Challenger 09-11-2007 07:40 PM

First boat was a 17 foot reinell, about 20 years back, parents dumped it on me. First offshore performer was also owned by my parents and kept at the coast, 38 fountain. It was sold years back when they retired. I recently sold my last performer (if you really wanna call it that, I guess it depends on what you like) was a chris craft stinger with a 502. Currently looking another project offshore boat, one day I will find it........but for the lake here I run a sea-doo challenger with the 240 mercury sport jet. Decent play toy for the lake, nothing to write home about, but a good overall family boat loaded up with options. Looking to do a scarab this winter or a 27 fountain fever, miss my power and top end, but I can still get around the docks.
