OK members: What was your first boat?

OK gang lets have some fun! *** be honest. This should be a great profile of all of us.

First: What was your first boat & at what age were you?

Second: What is your current boat(s)& what is your profession?

Lets see who is really a player!

For me:
First Boat: It was a Minimax hydro (I made) with a 5hp Mercury OB (most fun to date in the lakes of Wisconsin)I was 14-15!

Current boat: 28 Scarab, 502efi, 12 ft Alum merc 15, Kaw jet ski *** I'm a Mechanical Engineer in the Medical field!

We did this quite a while back, but we have a LOT of new members since then. So....

1st boat was a br*** new 1972 14' Glastron tri hull with a 50 Merc. I was 8 at the time (it was Dad's boat, but I drove it more than he did). I still have this boat!! Great fishing boat. Runs like a watch. I've had various aluminum boats since then also (still have a 14' with a 9.9 Merc if anyone if interested!! Trailer included!!)

Current boat is a 24 Baja Sport with a soon to be 425-450 hp 454 (.030 over).

I am a Project Leader for a large automotive supplier.

First family boat I remember was a 1962 Correct Craft 17 foot straight inboard. Fiberglass with a 318 Chrysler. Fast boat in the days of white Merc. "fire and go" outboards.

First boat purchased was a 17 foot Checkmate low profile open bow with a 150 Mercury Black Max. Fast as long as water was smooth. Learned fine art of chine walking.

Just bought a 98 312 Formula Fastech. 3 inboards, 3 houseboats, a 25 Formula and a 27 Fountain in between.

Audiofn 04-03-2001 11:33 AM

Well I assume we are talking power boats, so MY first one was a 15ft hydrostream with a 1500XS that was modified. It was a blast to drive and I hope to run it a couple times this year before I sell it. It has not been in the water for about 3 years.

New boat is a Formula 302. Work in progress http://www.offshoreonly.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

My families first boat was an 18 foot Sea Ray with a 90 Merc I believe. It was vintage 1960 something and my cousin still runs it in Fl. Then the fam. got a 1993 268 Sea Ray Sundancer with twin 470's. No not the motor you are thinking of, the junk ones with the hodge podge of parts that no one liked. The were called 470 because they were 4 cylinders 170 HP a piece. Now I have a 1997 Formula 252 that I bought new with a 454 MPI on a Bravo III. I also have a 24 Skater with twin 2.5's. I am 29 and a Financial Advisor with Prudential Securities in Albany, NY. 1-800-426-8961. If anyone ever heads up to Lake George in the Adirondack Mountains let me know, I live on the lake.

Oh yeah, I also have a 1996 Sea Doo SPX and a Waverunner, and an 18 foot Great Canadian Hand Made Mahogany Canoe with TWIN OARS!!! First legal description boat:
1993 Kawasaki 550 Jet Ski. After all the mods, Milled Head, Performance Exhaust, 46mm Carb. It was and honest 51 MPH stand up. Don't fall at that speed unless you want an enima. http://www.offshoreonly.com/ubb/eek.gif http://www.offshoreonly.com/ubb/eek.gif http://www.offshoreonly.com/ubb/eek.gif http://www.offshoreonly.com/ubb/eek.gif http://www.offshoreonly.com/ubb/eek.gif

First REAL boat:
2000 Baja H2X: I swore I would have a real boat before I turned 30. Made it by 9 months. I've wanted a boat for ten years. I kept pricing myself out of the market. 10 years ago a 17 foot Wellcraft, then the 19' then the 21'. Last year I almost blew it again because I started looking at 27' Fountain Fever. But I finally pulled the reins back in and settled for a 24 H2X that was easily affordable.

"If I can ever get up to a 35' I swear I'll be satisfied!!!" http://www.offshoreonly.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif My wife doesn't believe me. http://www.offshoreonly.com/ubb/mad.gif

Iggy 04-03-2001 12:58 PM

Wow!! Time warp!!

Lets see.
It all started when I was a young lad of 8 years.
In 1963 Dad bought a used 34 ft Colonial cabin cruiser built in 1959, and for use as a dingy he bought me an 8 ft pram, plywood contruction, and a 7.5hp Merc engine. This little devil could also be sailed or rowed. Later Dad sold the pram, kept the motor, and bought a 9.5ft Glaspar hull.
Then Dad sold the Colonial and picked up a new 1965,36 ft Chris Craft and a 13 ft Boston Whaler w/20hp Johnson for me.
Sold the Whaler in '69 and bought a neighbors 16ft Cruisers Inc tri-hull w/65hp Merc. Had that till '73.
No boats after that until last summer, just good friends and their boats. Well, the wife and I were discussing buying a boat when we spotted this one in a Walmart parking lot and bought it. 1988 Formula 206 LS, excellent condition, low hours. We are the third owners.
We also have a pair of Polaris jet-ski's.
Yeah, I know, "EEK!! LAKE LICE!".
Not all of us ride like idiots.

As for my occupation, I'm a Reliability and Maintainability Engineering Techinician.
Whew!
Currently working for a company in Orlando that builds simlulators for the military. I get to abuse them to see what it takes to break them.....DAMN! Where's my hammer? Oh, the hell with that... pass me the sledge...

First boat was a 12 foot john boat on a trailer. I think I paid $100 for it when I was about 12 or so. It got washed away by a flash flood about a year later. Now I am on my 6th and 7th boats.

One is a Tx19 jetboat with a healthy 468, custom paint, and all the goodies.

My pride and joy is a 2000 23 Wyatt Tunnel with a 454mag.

I am a Chiropractor in private practice since 1995
