I know that had he been bitten, blood in the water would have probably made things infinitely worse. I wonder if poop in the water would do the same....?

The Caymans have to be one of the ultimate places to scuba and snorkel, from the condo we stayed at on seven mile beach you could walk 150' into the cleanest water I have ever seen. Marine life is abundant, shark problems are very rare. You can see that the shark smelled dinner, blood and fish scraps in the water.

Caymans cost 1.5 to 2 times Florida prices for a tourist. Still I will go back. Easy short flight from Houston.

If you are considering going check out the London House Condos. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...n_Islands.html

Location is second to none at any price point and theirs is one of the more reasonable.

This actually happens quite often with spear fisherman, the sharks get the smell of the fish and the blood on the end of the Spear that's one reason the shark kept going back and forth between the fish and the end of the spear. He was just doing what nature has intended. They have an incredible sense of smell. I'm sure we will see a lot more of this, now that they're going after the lionfish for being a nuisance.

My cousin and I had almost the exact thing happen while spearfishing down in Key West. Crazy to see another video that is so close to the memory of what happened to us. I was taking a nice hogfish off my spear when the shark first flashed in front of my face.

The whole thing was surreal with the shark descending and then turning back toward the surface and rushing at me...then down and back up at my cousin. I threw the fish to try and let him go after it but it didn't make a bit of difference, the shark kept coming back at us.

Luckily I had the spear in my hand and my cousin was holding the butt of the gun so we both had something to fend off the shark. I'm 100% positive we would have been bitten had we not had these. After 6 or seven rushes back and forth I finally got a good poke at the shark and burried the spear tip in him. That's when he flipped out and swam off like a rocket.

One of the craziest things I've ever been through. Sure wish I had a video like this to show for it!

Default wow

wow. should have changed the name of that video . After spending a lot of time spearfishing and being around sharks photographing them both freediving and with scuba, I think that fellow was ringing the proverbial dinner bell. If that shark wanted to taste meat instead of fish she would have. The thing the diver did properly was not get limbs between the shark and the fish while dropping the jar full of sushi. If you think that was a shark showing aggression you haven't seen my neighbors pekinese.
Lucky he didn't bolt though, that could have been bad news if he surfaced to fast or held his breath. In the water for about 30 minutes whacking lionfish probably chummed it up pretty good. Lucky it was just a teenage girl shark not a big bull with attitude. Hopefully he did not hurt the shark badly. It was only trying for a snack!!
