There are two kind of boat owners... Those who own a Cigarette and those who wish that they own a Cigarette. Just Sayin' 
All kidding aside, the guy is from Cali, so it is certainly possible to run 50 in 8' seas. Sometimes there are 8' swells in the Pacific and they are 200 yards apart. It's like riding a kiddie roller coaster!
