SRW: what's the most you would tow
I thought this would be a fun flip of the adverse of what truck is needed.
For instance, let's use my 2011 f250 6.7, crew cab, short bed. The new boat pulls like its Clark griswalds snow sled. Tracks perfect and hardly know it's there. So, how big of a boat would you tow? |
My Ford would tow the Titanic, just cause' it's a Ford!
Seriously though, these trucks can do 16k pounds no problem |
I pull 13K with my slightly lifted SRW F-350 6.0. No problems but I also have 6 wheel disc brakes on the trailer.
|
I am at about my limit now.
36' boat with trailer and all is about 40'. Truck is a slight lifted Excursion diesel. Truck can pull more with ease but not sure how I feel about more back there. |
36 Skater with 2007 crew cab 2500 with diesel and allison all day and nite.
|
Fun responses! This kind of uncovers the route of my question. The new srw 3/4s can haul 14-16k so the boats that touch on those limits are going to be nearing 40+ ft long. So... Would you?
This is also assuming eoh brakes on all axles. |
I don't think I would tow that big unless I had a dually
|
This will get the SRW vs. DRW crew going and Sydwayz is gonna crap his pants.
The big part of the equation is how the load sits on the trailer. If everything is balanced /set up right you can pull 16k with that truck no problem. Would i pull a 43 scarab on surge brakes? NO WAY. would i pull a 44 MTI on a triple axle trailer correctly set up with EOH brakes- yes- BUT CAREFULLY. Wannabe |

The more accurate question is what is the max you can tow - and still be covered by insurance.
Any clown can pull a lot and claim they can do it, but what happens when that rig gets in an accident and injures someone, then that massive towing capacity ain't gonna seem so cool at that point. |
