My checkmate seems like it fits what you are looking for. It is bigger than the 251 checkmates and does not have the same porpoise, it is better balanced. She runs 68 all day long the 500HP motor is a great platform to build on if you want more speed. It tows great with a half ton, I used my old F-150 for years. I have video and more pics of it if you are interested and it is a true 28 ft boat, does not include the swim platform. My wife and daughter have spent many nights on the boat.

Well after looking and looking I have decided on these two boats (or something along these lines and price). I really like the shape/lines and cockpit room, but don't think it's a mag motor and doesn't have any trim tabs. I like the scarab too, but it may be to big of a boat for what I am looking for. Also not sure if I like the idea of a boat that size having a single engine. I already called my bank and will have no problem getting 10-12k. That way I can put some money into the boat and do it the way I want to. I know I am probably bugging the chit out of you guys and I apologize. Please tell me what you think about these two boats.

I know I will get chit for this but the hulls will not stand up to rough waters. This Baja is full of mold in the cockpit. Both choices are yours, but both have little cockpit room and depth. (freeboard). If you will have little kids on board, get something with a deeper, bigger freeboard. When I ordered the Infinity, I had little kids and I ordered the larger freeboard model FYI. |
Well that sucks. I'll keep looking.

Proof of this? What exactly are you considering rough water?

:) Sorry about that, I leave you with one advice. Don't buy what other people think you should get, or what other people wish or they want to get. Get what best fits for you, and enjoy.
I have found a couple reasonably priced checkmate 251's and I'm reading about porpoising issues now. I am looking to buy a boat within e next 2 weeks. |
