Took the boat out today with the 30pitch 4 blade props. I was ab;e to get on plain very easy cruiseing speed @3500rpms was about 55mph which was nice however when I went WOT I was only able to turn 4300rpms. At those rpms I stil managed 72mph, however just wasnt able to turn them any mor rpms. So now I am going to drop to a set of 26pitch 4 blade props and that should get me close to the 5200rpms. The joys of prop testing.LOL

What RPM did your engines make peak power on the dyno? Im guessing higher than 5200RPM?

26's should get you more in the ballpark, if 5000-5200 is the goal. If you break 80 I think you'll be lucky. 90+ isnt gonna happen with what you have now. You'd need to be able to pull those 30's to about 5500RPM to get there.

I'd like to see the specs of the builds. Like cam, brand of heads, static compression, carb, intake, etc. Something tells me you arent making a true 650HP.

I have no reason to question the hp of the engines. The engine builder and another shop told me I would not be able to spin the 30's to where I needed to be in rpm range. I just didn't listen when I should of. I also learned that my hull has no steps in it so that changes things up as well. Also unsure of the gear ratio in the out drives as well. When we got the boat it was a hot mess of a bunch of different parts that didn't match.
A set of 26's lab finished may be the ticket.

"learned" You are scaring me. There are a couple shops on Lake Lanier that know Fountain boats very well. You might want to take it over to Tony Canale/Canale Marine. He can surely help you with setup since he raced a Fountain.

A 1999 35 fountain has a step in the hull. That boat will run 80 with HP 500 merc engines turning 28p props. 650hp a side should push that boat to 90.

So what are the build specs ?

Excuse my ignorance on the hulls. this is our first fountain. So what are you saying is a step in the hull? I have seen the newer fountains and I can see 2 notches in the side of the hull and I am guessing that runs across the bottom. Our boat has no notches in the side that runs across like that. On the bottom of ours toward the center there is what I call a little step out on the sides of the V in the hull about 6feet from the back of the boat. Now I am curious as to what we have as far as hulls go. On the back of the boat the hull id# reads 99 for the last 2 numbers. Is there another place on the hull I can find a number to make sure it is legit ?
