Default Well they pretty much Neutered the Lake Cumberland Poker Run.

The New Poker Run Format for 2014.

The Poker Run is a two day event.
Starting at noon on Friday participants can visit any of the 9 marinas to receive a card. It Takes 5 cards to play. There is no shotgun start or any order that you must visit the marinas.

All cards must be drawn by 7 PM Saturday at State Dock. You could visit a couple of marinas each day and then join the Legendary raft up in Harmon Creek. Visit 8 of 9 marinas and receive an extra card.

Can't say it surprises me. I wonder if the big dogs will still come and support the event now that there's no mass-start and organized route? I sure hope so. The local community really got a boost from this event.

Should still be ok, Havasu was still cool, the event out west I go to is still ok... Just won't be the hype and build up.

Seems somewhat counter-intuitive to have all the boats running all over the lake rather than in a semi-organized route...

I've done this type of format before. It all but takes the adrenaline out of the event and is pretty much like just another weekend day on the lake - but with more performance boats. . It's still fun but the whole point of Poker runs for me is running together with a bunch of other fast boats. This format minimizes the number of boats running together. Oh well. Life goes on.

Should have at least kept it all in 1 day IMO.

I hate it for the run. Figured it was coming. Probably result of the Corps and Ins. But 3 deaths recently is hard to accept for everyone involved. I would go to the speed groupings and Do Not Pass The Pace Boat format. Maybe they can do a speed shootout in the future like LOTO and Desert Storm. There are ways to keep the adrenaline in it and manage the liability and risk to all involved. I will go and enjoy. If Bill doesn't want to do a shootout, maybe some other entity could organize and run it..... Would be a good charity fund raiser. I would get on it except I have all I can do putting on Waterski Tournaments.
My prediction is that the Poker Run Party will still be on. Last few years many of the Harmon crowd never saw the Poker Run boats until they Idled through Harmon.

I talked to Bill a couple days ago and found out about this new format. I really think it is the beginning of the end. I've said for years that this run had become more about the party and less about the run and now that's all it will be. I will say too that im not surprised and realize it's likely that his hand was forced but I will be surprised if it works. That's my home dock so I hope to see you all there.

Well, can't say I'm the least surprised. I knew it was coming, but better than being cancelled altogether.

Oh, and I'll just leave this here.......

I don't think the fly bye was the final straw.

Just saying
