Will 224 fall at this years shootout?
Wondering what everyone thinks? Will the My Way record fall at this years event?
|
Maybe.
|
Haven't heard.....Is My Way coming back this year??? If Yes, then 50/50
If they are not, then No. |
No
|
No..... And no My Way this year
|
If lightning performance can make a few full passes to get dialed in, they are capable... But I got some special info :)
|
Qatar is coming. They have the same boat with the same turbines as My Way. If the weather is nice, like it has been, and they have the boat setup right, there is a chance..... A slight one, but still a chance.
My Way was dialed in last year, as near perfect run you could get in that distance. That being said, Qatar has unlimited resources and $ to get the job done. If they did their homework, could be interesting. I wish we could get two of the "big boys" to run the same year, it would be cool watching them go at each other. Then maybe a drag race, side by side like the Big Thunder boats a few years ago. |
Don't think so.

I am still going no even with those boats coming. That My Way pass was about as picture perfect as you can get.

I wouldn't sell the race teams short, Bill (My way) is a recreational boater. Not the average rec boater, but still he puts no where near the time into the boats as Quatar currently does. It is very possible
Any thing is possible...... Just my thoughts that it doesn't happen this year is all. |

I hope the Qatar team can do it, just because I like to see records like this get broken. It's like winning the Super Bowl, though... so many things have to fall into place just right. In this case, the WEATHER can play a huge factor. Started to get a little tingle when I first read this thread... went looking back through the archives for some pix and now I am sitting here wishing I was there already. :musik010: https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2833/...9acbb84e_o.jpg |
Just for fun, here's one of the passes from 2011.
208 ain't 224, but- still... https://vimeo.com/28306596 |
Hopefully so, as I love seeing records getting broken and boats getting faster!
|
Hopefully nobody gets broken trying to break it......
|
As I recall, My Way had one engine pulling harder than the other when that record was set so they probably left something on the table when that 224 mph run was made. A similar boat with both turbines running at 110% could beat the current record with a near perfect pass. With the same package and the stars aligned (not to mention cooler temps would significantly help), 240 mph is more than possible. If not this year, it will happen soon with one of these T-55 powered boats.
|
Oops. Can't embed video. Never mind.
|
I am jumping on the NO bandwagon, but I will be there to watch! No one thought 224 would have been hit last year and with a boat with very similar setup, a real 100% racing crew, unlimited money and a year to build and learn from I guess anything is possible!
|
Qatar has the equipment to STOMP the record.
My Way runs T55-L-7's, Max Continuous HP is 2850, So 5700 HP total... aka, a $hitload. Qatar is running t55-L-714's, Max Continuous HP is 4860, So 9720 total.. an even bigger $hitload.. If they can get the drivetrain to live, it's going to be insane. I just hope they don't kill them selves. Tom |

I have to say, I agree with your post, almost makes me get plane tickets and head up... BUT Freaking work ruins all my fun! :( |
I hope not. I would like to see the 224 record to stand for a couple years with some good competetion trying to beat it. And then for Bill to go take it back again the next year.
|
Qatar is gonna murder it.. I`m just giving you guys the heads up.

And this is why we will be tied up at the middle of the course and not the finish line :)

What's a good time to get over to the line up to get a spot? Thus is the first year we rented a boat to join the front line party. |

I did not know they had more HP, thought they had a chance with same HP. Now I really think there is a shot at breaking it. It will still have to be a near perfect run. I wish them luck, and hope nothing stupid happens.

We've pulled onto the front line as late as 11:00 A.M. but by then it begins to get more difficult. I would say be in line no later than 10:00 A.M. if you want to be able to pick your position on the course on the front line.

Depending if you have a deck to stand on or if not, get rafted up next to a cruiser, the second line or some of the smaller tie-offs behind the front row are fine as well. Wind can play havoc though with secondary lines. The front row is always stable due to the sheer number of boats/anchors. First pic secondary line, second front row.
