Which Garmin screens to order?
Looking forward to outfitting new boat but some of the choices I have to make I'm not that familiar with. I need to chose between the following screens (2). Looking at 7212, 7215, 8212 or 8215. Any insight as to the difference in models is appreciated. There seems to be quite a difference in prices. I guess the 15" screens do fill up the dash better.

There is no differences in the 12 or 15inch series. All software for both series are the same.

Being in the electronics business I can tell you get the 8000 series hands down. Faster processor. Better resolution. More screen configurations and better overall look. The other big reason is that the 7000 series is 5yr old technology and will be discontinued in the coming year or so. Also all of Garmin's new units are geared around the 8000 series.

The 8000 series will do a TON of things the 7000 won't. They connect into everything better, including the new vessel view from Mercury. I really am not familiar with the tech side of them, but I know you can add cameras, radio tuners, VHF, al kinds of stuff and it is easily configured for it.
Probably one of the few things worth the extra cost, IMHO.

PS- Nor-Tech offers a pre-wire & cutout option so you can buy the electronics & stereo on your own & they install it. That's path I plan to take. Bet I can save 50% total for all equipment purchased.

8000 series hands down, remember , even if you purchase the unit yourself, instalation can easily run 10-25 hrs or more depending if you get anything in addition to the gps. sonar, radar etc. I like the idea of a factory install, look at overall pricing, but remember to factor in install charges.
