You are absolutely correct. I have a LOT of wheel time in a cafe and owned a straight bottom TG. they both rock. I'd buy a cafe in a heart beat! Only difference besides the couple feet is the fact the gun is more efficient and is actually a couple mph faster than a cafe with same power.

Forget the ride in the cabin. When the 35 footer was raced in the mid to late 70's, the riding crew often had to earn their pay by slipping through the circle cut in the firewall and going back to check on the engines or sometimes add oil to them....not while riding along, but even stopped in our usual racing conditions of 80 to 100 foot waves it was a rough ride

COG thing... makes it different.....both ride great, I think Cafe kites a little less but thats just my opinion...

I love my Cafe. I've had it for 3 years, fighting engine issues until finally running great this past October. Great ride - loves rough water as much as I do. My only complaint is the speed. 600HP and 70 in perfect conditions. I think that was due to the 1.36 GR as I tested a 1.5 GR last month and gained 800 RPM. Planning to put her up for sale over the winter as its time to start paying for college instead of fuel. ...but I'll be back!

I am 73 with 600 hp in the MIstress, not the fastest but I can tel you in the bigger water many faster boats cant run with my old tird.... depends on the boat...when it s real big water nobodys going full throttle anyway, at least not a great lake....

Sounds about right what you're getting for speed. I have a couple buddy's with 600's in 38 straight bottom older cigs, if they hit 70 the stars aligned, light on fuel, good chop, cool air, etc. Sounds like your speeds and Full Forces speeds are where they should be.

Lately on oso and facebook, I've been seeing some ridiculous claims. Guys claiming 80+mph in Cafe's and straight bottom guns, with 600's. Mid 80's with 700's in straight bottom top guns, and so on.

I'd like to see some of these guys speedo's and dyno sheets. These are heavy straight vee bottoms with a sharp deadrise, not pad bottom boats. I'd take a old straight bottom gun in a minute if I could run 85mph with 700's, or a Cafe with 600's and see 80+.

Posting speed numbers used to be about helping other guys to get an idea of their setup, or what "could" be done if they upgrade their power. Now, its all about some elementary bragging right. Nobody's impressed by lying about your 75mph top speed, and calling it "80". Not when we live in a world where 100mph vee's are a dime a dozen.

Some of the numbers you're quoting might be slightly high, but I have some friends with 1994 straight bottom TG's. I know for a fact the boat with 500 EFI's (which I believe dyno at around 470hp) and bravos runs 69-71 depending on load and the other with 700's and TRS drives will run 82-83,. With "faster drives" I'm sure the 700 boat would run 85. A straight boat TG with 600's and bravos should run around 78 or so. With perfect conditions, labbed props, saltwater, one person, and extrememly light on fuel, these numbers would no doubt be higher... So my guess is some of those claims you're talking about are very possible.
