I personally never had an issue with storing a boat in a cold environment. It's moisture that bothered me the most. After looking into manufactured carports, I concluded, l need to make my own since most aren't designed for snow and if so very little. Plus, I was feeling the need to build something. Subsequently, I decided to make a "boat port" to help protect my boats from the environment. After 11lbs of wire, a tank of gas and about 110 hours I end up with this. Designed to be expandable too.

Nice work Andy! Looks like lots of welding.
I`m better at making things out of wood, the stairs and deck are the best thing since sliced bread at working on the boat. Had a buddy put a 20' beam up there for engine pulling too http://33outlaw.zenfolio.com/img/s3/...33078459-3.jpg http://33outlaw.zenfolio.com/img/s2/...45238100-3.jpg |
As cold as it looks with snow on the ground, I hope for your sake, you are putting walls up. I woke up and it's 28 outside here in SC, and going to work and turning the heat on. I'm originally from northeast Ohio, and going back to see family over Christmas. That will be enough cold weather for me as long as there's snow I'm ok. I miss the winter snow sports. If anyone; needs some engine work, I will trade it out for some snowmobiling adventures as long as you don't kill me with crazyness.

I don`t know about Andy but if I wanted walls I would have built a different structure like a garage. This serves its intended purpose to keep the sun, rain and snow off the boat.

Here is mine
Next year I think I am building something that is anchored to the ground with a metal roof but this works for now! Nice thing is I can install it in my driveway and then back the boat into the back yard with the structure already built! http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i4...ps28280324.jpg http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i4...ps9571948e.jpg http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i4...psb0dff9f5.jpg http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i4...psc4228986.jpg |

is the lifting beam on the outside of the roof panel?
I made the roof panel removable, easy peasy. http://33outlaw.zenfolio.com/img/s5/...38061457-3.jpg |

Yeah its not ideal but if it was inside the roof would be too high.

Snowmobiling - If not running all out on the lakes and fast as reasonably possible on the trails, i'll meet you at the bar. |

Get's a little crowded sometimes; especially when the winter beater is in there (Dodge 2500). It has been sold/replaced, along with the Benz, and jet skis, but their floor space is still occupied.

hadley, nice barn, er club! It looks like it is a tight fit height wise with the boat (nice looking btw), is it an eight foot door? Curious what kind of tiles are on the floor and why "Club 37"? There is a Club 37 a bit north of me. Cool shop, thanks for the pics.

Thanks for the compliments, Yes it is an 8 foot door. Boat is about 7'8" tall. Floor tiles are 1" thick recycled rubber (very tough stuff). My address is 3733. Thats where I came up with the 37. "Club 37" makes it sound official.

I did my weight room in my basement with 4x6 rubber stall mats, $30 each from TSC. They have diamond plate pattern.

Where did you source the rubber tiles? Coin?

I work in the construction industry. They were left over from a job. Actually not sure if they are still available. No coin pattern just flat.

Thanks. By "coin?", I was asking for cost/price. I haven't seen those before. So far my floor is polished concrete and it's slick when it's wet. I've seen epoxied floors, and they are even slicker when wet. I don't want that; but still have not figured out what I want the long term surface to be.
I don't know if I would use them on a floor that gets wet often. Even though they have "feet" on the bottom it could take a while for the concrete below to dry out. I really like the look of the polished concrete. I believe that is how they finish the Home Depots around here. How does that hold up to oil spills? |

Floormat Company.com sells the tiles. They are the "Eco-Sport 1" Tiles". They cost approx. $4.00 a sq. ft.

Overall, it's holding up great, but it's still porous and does stain with oil/whatever drips. I may end up putting epoxy down at some point, but it won't be baby's ass slick. I'll be adding some sand/grit to it. |

Mine is not as highly polished as a retail/commercial space. Properly described, it's more a burned finish with the automatic finisher.

I just had our floors done for the new home of the Skater we just bought and are remodeling. It was by a company called Elitecrete Solutions. They cut the floor and filled any imperfections. Used an epoxy and then will seal it with a clear urethane so it will not stain. Here are a few pics.
Not sure if you all seen these commercial fans by Big A$$ Fans. It has 6' blades and they are really quiet. |
