Take a look at the new MAX 5 from Mercury Racing.
|
I believe those are what they ran on the 101mph 39 Nor-Tech.
Too expensive, I want to say they are like $3000ea. Not worth it for a CC. |

Great news Bill, sounds like your boats completion is on target.

Should be leaving lamination and headed to rigging next week.
Last time it went to paint 1st then rigging but I prefer the order this boat is following better, hoping it will yield an even nicer paint job. |
No dive door ?

Looks great BTW. |
Came out real nice. I agree sharpest most custom Nor-Tech 390 I've seen.

They did offer them initially when 340's were first introduced but haven't been available for quite a few yrs. I want to believe it's cost prohibitive structurally. |

For whatever reason a 390 only has one walkway beside the rear bench whereas the 340" has 2, one each side and the benches are the same size ???
|
390 has and option for an L shaped back seat, or at least they did a few years back, therefore the one walkway. I asked about it for the 340 and it is not an option because of the walkway on both sides.

I wasn't aware of the L shape option but I too asked for only 1 walkway beside the 340 rear bench but N/A. Why I'm not sure. My reasoning is to minimize the amount of water that comes over the stern when you come off plane. There's plenty of room to walk across the stern of the boat behind the bench. They make the starboard inserts to achieve the same thing but not a big fan of those.
|
I'm no boat builder but normally you can place an insert in the mold so as not to have to build or modify the mold.
|
He told me it screws with the in floor fish boxes on each side too and those would require a change. If I could redesign it I would make the stern entrance in the middle, then offer an L shape seat on both sides. Then figure out the storage boxes from there.

Took the advice of some others who have upgraded their storage condos and splurged for a blacked out ceiling. I think it's a big improvement over my current condo. All the iron and sprinkler pipe has become rusty there.
Rough plumbing and loft construction begin in a week or so. Should be 100% complete and settled into by the time the boat is finished. |
Evolution Trailer Technologies

2 New Evolution Trailers in production side by side. One will be mine and the other is also for a new Nor-Tech 340 CC.
Cross members have been relocated to the bottom of the main C-Channel Frame Rails resulting in a lower CG and overall height. Having this one built w/ a Barker Power Tongue Jack and a few other custom add-ons. |

Recently developed adjustable bow stop allows you to retract the bow stop for launching and run it up to the hull once the boat is on the trailer. IMO it's more of a fine tuning option that keeps you from having run the boat all the way up against the stop while loading under power as well as exhaust yourself trying to winch the weight of the entire boat against the stop while on the ramp or horizontal surface. The fine tuning mechanism resembles that of a tongue jack crank.
|
Depending on your trailer length, don't you need to get your boat up to the stop and not bring the stop to the boat?
|
The boat still needs to be positioned in the proper location on the trailer but I don't think that ends up being the exact spot each time one loads especially for those that drive on blindly.
I tend to float my boat on and off the trailer most often. Even though I may have the boat tight to the bow stop in the water, the boat is floating and the trailer on a down angle which most often results in a gap once I climb the ramp & get on a level surface. This allows one to take up that 1" gap with ease. In the past I'd have to brake check to get that last inch which doesn't seem ideal to me. There are also some boats w/ Windlass Anchor systems & high bow eye's that end up w/ anchor / bowstop interference loading and or launching so this provides them with a good solution for that issue. |
I hope it works well, please keep us posted with photos of the new boat and if Bill could post some more also.

Pic from this afternoon.
Next in line to enter the rigging area. Thinking about a trip down to N. Fort Myers during the rigging. Believe it or not the riggers actually appreciate owners who take a sincere interest the completion of their boat and the attention to detail those guys put into the finished product. |

Jk, I know you appreciate how good they are at their jobs. |
You get a certain # of questions allowance w/o penalty. It's sort of a complicated formula based on the length of the boat, # of engines and H.P. :drink:
You never want to exceed that allowance, each question overage pushes your boats completion back 1 day. On a more serious note I have been getting a good ribbing from Mr. Sobo. Since Nor-Tech is a semi custom boat builder not everything is on the build sheet. Sometimes it's easier to use pictures or examples of things one wants incorporated into their boat build. I made 3 copies of a submittal type booklet that is comprised of pictures from my previous NT, other NT's and or anything that I thought would assist the riggers w/ style, location etc. I have a copy as does Terry & Sportboats so we can always refer to it in conversations. Terry and I were speaking last week and when I referenced my picture book he responded "Oh You Mean Your How To Build A Boat Guide". I was like Real Nice, I try to do something to help them be successful and eliminate mistakes / rework & now I'm being made fun of. It's ok many like to poke fun at my attention to detail ways but once they've had a taste, love em or hate them they come to appreciate that level of detail even more when they deal w/ the next customer who may not be quite as buttoned up! That's when I smile biggest.:grinser010: |

Not to mention you may actually get the boat they way you want it and not the way someone else thinks it should be! What a concept.........
Tough to manage with semi custom boat builders that work both sides of the fence from production to custom! I am like you Michael the more details the better...... It's also the reason I invest in trips to NT during the build process, $500+ every time I go which would fill the gas tank BUT I think it pays big dividends in the end. |

That's the 1st thought that came to my head when I read Greg's Post, I was just too lazy to dig up the pic and attach.

I think I'm going to ask Mr Sobo to BCC me on your emails and his replies. I need more humor in my days. :picard1:
