I have no love for Obama and I despise what he has done to this nation but I have long thought that it is time to ease restrictions on trade and travel to Cuba. It is not up to us to determine what type of government another country has. We don't have such restrictions with other communist nations such as China or Russia. I have always heard that Cuba is a wonderful boating destination but until now you had to be Canadian or find another way to skirt the law to go there.

I actually just went to cuba the first week of December. I flew out of Toronto, however, I have an US passport as I am both Canadian and American. It was actually really simple, just ask customs not to stamp your passport when you arrive and when you leave and you are good to go. No questions about it, they know the deal. The actual towns are pretty sad to see, at least around Veradero, but the people are all amazingly friendly and accommodating. Only problem I encountered was the booze selection sucked! There was actually a new incredibly nice marina right across the street from the resort where I stayed with shops and restaurants. Only thing was it was completely empty except for a few fishing boats.

I agree completely. Our travel restriction to Cuba has been ridiculous for a long time, especially when you consider all the heinous, human-rights-abusing countries we are allowed to visit. This is long overdue.

The short article I saw noted that this did not include tourist travel (i.e. - same restrictions on tourism travel from U.S. to COOOBA!)

bummer....
