Noli. That will make you very competitive in the Around Long Island race in August. Maybe Mercury would help you with setup and props.

How are the Sportsmasters going to hold up to this HP and Torque? Seems like the weak link.

Has anyone heard a firm weight for these 400's?

I'm sure mercury will come out with a 400hp outboard soon

Just a guess here, but id imagine the 400 is just a wound up version of the current 350. So easy to do with the supercharger in the mix....... just add boost!
For this reason id expect the weight to stay more or less the same as the 350.
Id also imagine the sportsmaster would have to have either stronger internal gears or maybe even a complete new (larger diameter) gear case to support larger internals.
Again, just thinking out loud.

Hi!

Whipple offered an upgrade kit for 350 to boost it to 380 hp. Higher rpm limiter and more boost. So the logic is that Merc does the same but with some more tweaks. Some speculate on bigger bore and longer stroke too.

X cat has been testing out sportmaster lower untis on their detuned 350 vrod with 15 shortlegs in dubail. So I hope for same gearhouse as before (4.8 inch dia) with stronger internals. This will add speed as well 😄

Sorry Dave, What was I thinking, your boat is a 36. 3 or 4 would be great. I just really hope they are a TRUE 400 hp. Not some 380hp motors with a 400 label. Time will tell. Based on the weight I would think the motors you have now are equalivent to the 350hp if they are the high output Diamod Versions.
