87 Formula 357 weighed 8950 dry, but the 97 382 fastech with the stepped hull weighs 10450 almost one ton more, its the weight that slows the 382

FWIW There's a 2009 382 with 700s in our area claims mid 90s.
What I was told. |
I think you refer to a boat on Lake George - if so, it's every bit of mid 90's. I'm told it's a Kevlar hull 700/NXT package and the motors have been warmed up by Saris Racing.
Its a beautiful boat. |
FYI: When I first bought my 382 it had 8 PSI Procharged 500's (830hp)........ran a best of 98 and hit 94-95 with family of 5 and 3/4 tanks. :)
(In hindsight, not sure why I didn't just leave it the way it was!) |

My 98 382 with fresh HP500s will top out at 70 light on fuel with just me in the boat and about a foot of chop. I have the 1991 sales handbook and the 1998 book. The 91 357 with 502s and Bravo 1 spinning Mirage 3 blade 19P says 60mph, the 98 382 with same motor/drive spinning Bravo 4 blade 24P says 65-68.

Guess as they say " A turd is a turd is a turd ", You can color a turd any way you want but if it still runs like a turd it is likely still a turd. Formula has for many years dumped out the same old chit year after year with no improvements to the design. Take a straight bottom and put some new Fastech do nothing steps into it, Shebang!

I rerigged a 05 from 525 Bravos to 700 NXTs it runs 98 on GPS with a genset on a rail. But we set up our on X Dimension higher than Formula set up there's.

These numbers seem to pretty much agree with reality and my 357. With 500HP in twins my 357 with TRS drives runs 65 and a 382 with 500 EFI and bravo runs 70. The steps are the primary difference all things being equal. That said, I don't know how equal the original comparison is. The steps are worth some speed but then the claims are not consistent with real world numbers so I am thinking that the claims are off somewhere. |
