big close waves
 

had the boat out today in a notorious Piece of water with super strong raging tides coming through a narrow entrance into a large bay therefore causing turbulence and standing waves….
there are big waves 7 footers at least however it isn't long spaced swell they are standing waves like a wall with far less then the length of the boat between troughs and crests…
was wondering how the veterans would handle these kind of conditions are they best to avoid I knew slowing is bad as the nose is so narrow but I slowed down because there were too many women getting scared then of course water came over the front! Interested in opinions.

Coming back from Key West a couple years ago, Haulover Inlet was a washing maching like you describe. Pat from Active Thunder was on the sticks, and he just put the hammer down. As long as you have a clear shot and there's no traffic, that's probably your best bet. Actually...remembered I have it on video. It was pretty rough out there...

I agree that being on top of them is way better then trying to fight throw them as long as u have a clear right of way. most girls always seam to get scared when it comes to big water you just have to tell them to hold on and stop yelling... lol what is fun to us is not always fun to them but a few drinks in my wife always helps.....:ernaehrung004:

Next time , if possible , drop the passengers at the nearest bar . Go back and take a pass at it to see how boat / you react . Great to have that under your belt on the day you get stuck in this situation or worse !!!

I almost lost a 30' Scarab Sport in Haulover Inlet on a sunny day , except for one dark cloud...... long story.

Gotta inform the passengers before leaving the ramp that they only get to scream and panic when you do, that's Rule 1

I drove 90 to 100 mph in a 2000 36 Skater in that water to Gilberts in 2012 having only to slow for the occasional 5 footer. My best day EVER running a cat! As Parasail stated get out there and try it. I have had to turn around more than once in water that was to much form my 25' Talon,but, I know my limitations as far as my hull is concerned.

Sounds like Lake Michigan any time there is weather.

Lake Michigan waves are almost always close together, and 3-5 footers can pop up in no time. My wife always yells at me to slow down, but that's literally the worse possible solution. Angle the boat towards the waves, trim it right so you stay on top of them, and push the sticks forward!

Crap, there are a couple of Jersey inlets that are crazy just about every day. I remember as a kid trying to go out Mansquan (sp?) inlet slow and "safe"- that scared the **** into permanent memory that power is your friend so use it.
