Doesnt seem like the beak, swim platform, or reduced running surface, caused this boat to have a hard time keeping up with 41 Apaches, or holding many race trophies.

The notch is a few inches not a couple feet...and it really depends how high on the water the hull is riding. One could argue that the cigs sit deeper thus it's effectively still using the hull above the notch. And yes I think hull design plays a small part of fountains speed. If you re read my posts, the length, weight, etc all play there part. No one was arguing it. I think the fountain owners are a bit sensitive. No one was attacking them.

The hull design plays a MAJOR part, not a small part, in its speeds. Not just fountain, Cigs, hustlers, avs scarabs, and so on, all run fast due to their hull design. A modern stepped Top Gun doesnt run so much faster than a Top Gun from 1988, because its lighter or shorter.

I've never seen a Top Gun notch that was 3 inches. The notched portion of the hull is not in contact with the water at high speed. Wouldnt that defeat the entire purpose of the notch?

Why don't you start comparing catamarans and yachts. Idk if you covered a broad enough spectrum of boats.

So..42 fountain with 2/500 EFIs runs 70-83 depending on conditions and set up right? My father and I had 25 hours on his new to him triple 500 EFI 42 this summer.. 90-94 everyday. And regardless if its 38 or 42 ft it ate the shat out of LOTO weekends!! Love cigs/OL/fountains! As long as we get back to lift at end of day it's a WIN! Summer yet?

This all comes down to "don't hate the playa...hate the game"
Back around 90' the USGC change the rules how boats were measured.
Fountain called what is now a 38 a 36, the 42 now a 40, before this rule.
FWIW, I'm not a fan of drive visors or drive awnings....Darr's guy can build you one though.
The manufacturer designs/styles it to their likings, and the length is determined by the USCG
