OSS did plenty "RIGHT" it just cost too much money to do it that way. When the "BIG" money guys stopped spending and the race sites couldn't keep coming up with money due to dwindling boat counts was the beginning of the end. OPGP is a different group. YES some of the staff from OSS has been contracted to run the logistics of the events but the "SERIES" is being run by a different group. Our team is excited to see what they come up with. I know that all of the teams that went to the Qatar Cup had a grand time and it was a well run event. OPA and SBI both run great events but OPGP is trying to do something just alittle bit different and take it to the next step of professionalism.

The guys with the most money didn't win this year. The guys that tested and raced all year won.


Your boat is ideal for Supercat ....it sounds like thats where you should focus your efforts . Competitive, balanced and financially manageable....but like unlimited you will have to test to win.

I talked to a few people that went to Qatar and they had nothing but great things to say about it. It just seems like every time the sport tries to take it the next step. It's one step forward and two steps back. I hope it works out for the best, I am not trying to be a Monday morning quarterback. Just someone that enjoys Offfshore Racing since I was a kid sitting on the rocks at Point Pleasant. Some decades have been better than others...

We understand that His Excellency Sheikh Hassan bin Jabor Al-Thani has resigned his post as the president of the Qatar Marine Sports Federation (QMSF) following disagreements with the Qatar hierarchy.

QMSF and the Offshore Powerboat Grand Prix (OPGP) recently jointly promoted and ran the Qatar Cup which was held in Doha earlier this month under the enthusiastic guidance of Sheikh Hassan.

So what's next. Any word on opgp future events?

Here is quote from Jason Miller, the general manager of OPGP, that was included in our last article on the state of OPGP and its current plans:

"At this point in time for the 2015 season OPGP can confirm that it will run a minimum of two races—the Qatar Cup and the Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix Festival. OPGP will not be pressurized into staging an event until it is 100-percent confidant that the event will be possible to stage to our standards. We feel it would be better that OPGP run fewer races correctly than a number of substandard events."

Beyond that, there's has been no additional word out of the organization regarding upcoming this year, but based on where we are now in the season and how long it takes to organizer a race (securing permits and insurance, working with venues, not to mention giving racers enough lead time to make plans) the chances of another OPGP race in 2015 are slim Beyond that? No idea.

Received the official email today. Qatar and Sarasota only for 2015. They are working on a 2016 schedule.

wait, what? mr miller? the only people who "pressurized" opgp into anything is itself. with the embarrassing steve curtis exposure (i'm the president oh wait no, i'm not the president) and resultant fall-out of months of silence, artfully worded (but false) cover up statements, and spurious promises of "X number of fantastic races to rival the competition," it is opgp an opgp alone that "pressurized" itself into the debacle it's turned out to be.

I am curious if any of you attended a event and Steve Curtis was there, would you go up to him and say anything to him?? or would you just continue talking about him in your little circle of Keyboard racers, that haven't done anything positive for the sport either??? Just saying The horse is dead let it go!
