Ha! No, it's just shop talk between devs. I'll try to post a new video soon to get us back on topic.

All very interesting...Do you have the ability to import a hull model into the simulator?

Yes, I could do that but it won't be part of the sim. Virtually all of the boat models I found that were interesting to me had too many polygons to run the physics in real time, and they're not necessarily laid out in a physics friendly way. Since I couldn't find what I wanted, I wrote a procedural system that generates the boat geometrically from the parameters you provide. This way it always works and the polycount can be kept within a reasonable range. That's something the players can tinker with to generate their own hulls. I've spent hours just tweaking the pad and other stuff in an effort to gain 2 or 3 mph. My kind of fun.

Be really interesting to reach out to a couple of the performance boat builders and see if they can provide you a CAD model of one of their hulls. You know the big guys like outerlimits, cigarette, formula are producing the models in CAD first before producing the molds. Not sure if any would be willing to share but I bet those models would be clean!

Yeah, that would be really cool, although I won't be ready to get into doing offshore boats for a long time yet (if ever). I've had a couple of offshore teams contact me here since posting this thread though.

Thanks, Jolley. I ran across that a few months ago when looking for data.

I've created a forum at the site for discussion on the speedboat simulator: http://www.performancesimulations.co...oat-simulator/

I'm new to the forum software so am not sure how it works yet, but it looks like you might be able to sign up and subscribe to the forum so you're notified upon the simulator's release.
