Funny, I'm the same way.
The project is part of the adventure and not just a means to an end.
I suppose I would have just bought a finished boat otherwise.
Most folks just don't understand. My wife thinks I'm nuts, but the labor of the restoration is therapeutic in some ways.

Funny story, Last labor day we were out on the lake docked up to a bunch of other boats having a grand old time. People are stopping and admiring my boat and what not. One guy asked how much I had into her and with the wife right beside be, I turned to her and asked her. "honey how much do you think I have into it" she said 5-6k.

I looked at the guy and said yup will go with that.

I later seen him at one of the bars on the lake and he said you really dont have 5-6k in that do you, I said no put a one infront of it.

We both laughed and he bought be a beer.
