IMO, it's a mechanical item made by man. It WILL fail at some point, the better question is when

Your story is the TRUTH about Bravo based drives, no offense to you personally.

Funny how some think 800hp is ok if you do this or that magic. But no matter what they WILL prematurely fail and or break!

This story proves how they break behind stock engines, then even when drives are UPGRADED to support 700hp they still break behind STOCK 454s.
I think the most important component of Crown's post is that George repaired the drive under warranty!! KUDOS AADS!

No, things can be designed for virtually infinite life.

What's really gross is the Merc Bravo XR drive is a hand grenade even behind power that it's supposed to be rated for. How many failures have we seen behind 525's, never mind 600's. And even more mind blowing is we are so numb to failures that they are expected and accepted. Can you imagine buying a new Ford Superduty and bragging to your buddies that you got a full season out of the rear end????? Absurd.

The first Sunny F-4 with 600's/XR's blew a drive during prop testing before the boat was delivered to the customer! Ate the second drive in the low 100 hour range after it was traded in. The original owner was able to coax 100 hours out of the drives while he had the boat. However, you could always hear the ticking in the back of your mind wondering when the bomb was going to go off!

Yeah but that guy was a retiree that only liked to go 30-35 tops so it was easy to get 100 hours out of those drives!

What if there was a gearset available that for most applications up to 800 hp/800 ft lbs. that eliminated the"gear" failure of the XR ?? Would you all be interested in buying a set ??? What would you be willing to pay for them ????

And let's not be ridiculous with your answers about the cost.
