10 PM's.....really?

I think she is trying to say that everyone wants to jump on IB about being for profit but when the previous owner ran OSO you got 0 PMs for free.

I never said anything about Mod's getting paid and know first hand that most if not all don't. Hell even at iboat's forum (a boat store) the Mod's didn't get paid. As I said, I've owned and run forums before and I know the argument is going to be bandwidth and costs and I call BS on it. If it did at all it would cost almost nothing for everyone to have unlimited pm's. As for paying (again if there is any cost), there's a reason OSO can be bought and sold when most other forums, especially boat forums can't. Think about it.
Just call it what it is, an incentive to become a paying member.
Not here to argue over privet messages as I am closing down my own sites and trying to spend less time on-line. Just thought it would make life easier by not having the PM's I send out returned due to another member's full mail box. Half of them are to old members from doing searches. Brought a few members back that hadn't been here in a while. Got a lot of full mail box returns over the years and just think of all the transactions that were missed in the wanted or far sale section. But it is what it is.
If I missed it. Is there a place that you can allow members to direct email. About half the boards I visit when you click on the members name, in their profile there will be a "email" box. Just a link not the address. You guys are using vBulletin there should be a check box to allow it and to allow members to allow it or not.

No, I said that, and my point is this....10 pm's for a nonpaying member is the IB's rule, that is easy to grasp. Haranguing a unpaid mod because she said you're lucky to get 10 because in the old days non paying members got 0 seems a bit over the line....they don't make the rules, they just see that they are adhered to. We all benefit from their free service. Without them the Civil Tone (in posting) as we know it would vanish. You have been here for 10 years so you understand what is what.

Ahhh what? Lucky is what you call it? IMHO OSO is lucky to have the members it has that spend the time they do on this board making it what it is. I check on 5 boat forums on a regular basis. 3 of which are very minor league compared to OSO and yet no limit on P/Ms on any of them. Just a simple, "it's the rule" would have been good enough.
As for getting something free and wanting more .....
How much time do you think I've spent on OSO posting projects, reading through posts with the chance I may be able to add something then typing the response out, editing pictures, posting to free hosting and then putting it all together and posting it to the board. Now times that over 2000 times.
Again OSO is lucky to have so many non paying members that contribute. Regardless if its people looking for answers to an issue, people answering those people or just people posting stupid pet videos it's all content and traffic and is why OSO is worth anything and can charge what they do for all those ads over on the side and at the top of the page. So if it was me I would treat non paying members with a little more respect. If OSO could do it with just paying members I wouldn't be here and we wouldn't be having this conversation.

That was way before any forums were charging anything for any type of membership.
Not to rain on your parade, but we have a combined 30k+ posts of doing the same thing that you do posting on OSO.
We post because we want to, not because we expect something out of it. Its because we enjoy it and enjoy helping other boaters out.
Now we invest our time and do our best to keep OSO running as smoothly as possible.
Nothing in this world is free. IB and OSO are businesses that provide a service in hopes of generating a profit.
Someone would have to pay for the additional data storage eventually.
That could mean an increase to current paying members or an increase for sponsors. I personally don't like either idea.
It reminds me of the way our current federal government is running. I think those that want something should pay or work for it.

But I can see you all are circling up the wagons and like a bunch of Libs you are attacking the person instead of defending your position (I went there, how's it feel) so I'm done. Also thanks for pointing out that the time and effort of reading endlessly and posting up 2000 posts over a decade means nothing if I'm not slipping you all a check (now that almost sounds like how Hillary works...hummmmm). I'm sure I could work in a quote from Obama saying "you didn't build that" but again I'm done.

Wow,really dude? The site was the original site, the reason the other sites give away free stuff is becuase they want to be what this site is. You mention stepping into the future a couple times, well in the age of mass communication and every concievable form of communicating with someone is in the palm of your hand, you choose to get upset over the amount of pms a site gives you for free because your an unpaid member and the words from your mouth create value above everyone elses. So why dont you pick up the phone and call, or use email or text, those are certainly more direct and savable from a service you get this pay for. If you want unlimited texting from a cell plan, you pay for it....
