I actually just bought a 382 Fastech with the Ilmor/Indy package and I also had some concern regarding this news. I also spoke with Melanie and Ian, who confirmed all of this but she did say that while a general consumer will not be able to buy the motors, they will still be producing them on a per boat build basis to select boat builders that they have relationships with. I would assume that one of them is Formula.

Thanks, Ian told me in person that he was retiring I think in June of this year. A younger guy was taking over in his place. Wonder if the this news had anything to do him retiring and hopefully all the employees will still have jobs. A lot of those guys and Jessica are very good people.

Another big loss for the industry. Our sport is going to hell.

Ian is retiring April 17th. Ilmor is not going anywhere, it's just the MV10 will be on a limited basis, but they are supporting them fully.

Not a problem for now, but 10-15yrs out, if your boat has them, you are going to hate finding parts or getting them fixed. If they had sold a ton of them it would not matter as the aftermarket would pick up the ball, but since they only sold a small number it's not going to be pleasant down the road. Just ask anyone with OMC stern drives what the last 20yrs has been like. In many places now, you can't even find a mechanic that has the manuals or knows how to fix them.

It's clear the mv-10 isn't a high production motor as is the case for any engine 600 cubes and up....anything with big HP is NOT getting parts or fixed in a day by any Merc mechanic down the road...specialty build engine houses are not going away and Ilmor has their foot firmly planted in the market from what I can gather......I'm actually saying most of this for my benefit as I've just "invested" in a pair of these and love to gamble so I guess we'll see...

I'm beginning to wonder if boats are as good an investment as I was led to believe?

I would use a 44 Magnum. LOL. Boats have never been a good investment unlike the muscle cars of the '60's and '70's. At least they are coming back in value.
