You start talking about a Tiger then you want to take a Top Gun out on lake Michigan to go up against the Apache? Don't see the point. Or did you mean to say put the Tiger up against it?

I'm sure it's a great boat, I know old race boats are fun, I use to own a well known one and had a blast with it. At the end of the day it was still an old race boat. I've also owned a Tiger, a Top Gun and Rough rider and would gladly go head to head with Allez Vite or any other 41 Apache any time any where with any of them. That Apache is only going to shine in very rough water. For anyone that wants to own a cool piece of history it would be a cool boat. But for what Tank was talking about, and I agree with him, I'd rather blow the same cash and get something a little newer with more up to date technology.

Seriously? Go to the classifieds and see what that stuff is going for. Don't take my word for it. If you think it's worth more than 120 in parts let me know next time you need something.

Bottom line. You're buying nestalgia. I don't think there's anyone on this thread that wouldn't love to own that boat. But justifying the prices for them is another story. And you can ask all day long for as much as you want but we all know the ones that sell are true deals.

Very cool boat with a great history, but with no steps, no useable cockpit, no cabin, etc. It's basically a PR boat or a race boat that's not competitive anymore. Tough to sell for any pleasure use.
But hey, they do have some utility... someone can say they own an Apache, let it sit in a barn, constantly talk about the glory days, come on here and play internet boat racer and rant how Apaches would still rule the race courses today if they chose to run! :D |
Each to there own
A tiger up against that 41' is not even competitive. Your 38' TS that I'm sure is a great boat doesn't have a chance in lake Michigan against it--- and you are saying you want more money--- I'm pretty sure they still make 1000hp Gellners, and hd trannies, as far as wet sumps they are still effective, your imcos are wet sumps... Btw. Not the same prices as 750 NA.... Now a rough rider would be competitive --- but is 5' longer--- compare it to a 47' like Kemosabe--- then you are back to the same issue And yes people will pay for nostalgia, ever been to a RM Auction.... |

Looks like it's been listed for a few days and 0 bids, what makes you think that the bids will start soon? Because it's at the end of the auction?

Spirit of Apache is hands down the baddest 47 out there yet it was for sale for 1/2 of the restoration costs, the Medicine Man 47 sold for what 125K? I have never seen Shogren even have an Apache for sale and he sells everything from A-Z. So while people will pay for nostalgia, the catch is with old boats they won't pay "all the money!" That being said, they are very cool boats and I would love to own one.....:D |
The scary thing is how many tigers have bravos. What a joke. At least almost all apaches have real hardware.
