looked at a hand full of sea rays and express cruisers and you almost need to get into a min of 42' - 44' to get a big cockpit, but there is a ton of cabin in those, and we will not be using it as a weekender or cottage just a day boat. i do have a offer in on a 400ss now, and sheri (mrs baron) really likes them. so i think we are going for it. if we really like the cruiser thing maybe get a bigger one down the road. but we have a cottage that sure has a lot more room to party and sleep at after a day of boating, and a great view of lake michigan and the channel. thanks for all the advise and please keep it coming.

If it's a Volvo setup it will have Volvo drives as well. That's way too much money for the one in the link. They even made a few with ilmor power and drives, that would be sweet

The diesels all will be Volvo's drives and motors both. We had a 2004 with 500efi's and loved the boat if I were to do it again and wasn't focused on speed alone I would go deisel. The diesel will get you a higher cruise speed with better fuel economy.

There's one being built right now with Duramax's.

A 40ss is a boat all different. It's smaller an runs great. I'm still looking. Artie. I think it makes a nice day boat an works if you don't make it home for the next day.

I had a 2006 400SS that i just sold, it had 525's and we put 400hrs on it, had it for 7 yrs. since it lived in the salt we had it bottom painted.
i broke one drive the entire time i had it and it may have had something to do with running the 80 miles of open ocean from Catalina to Channel islands at 55mph in rough water and getting air a lot :)
Had a couple sets of headers which was a cmi issue not Formula. other than that its a great boat. even though it is trailerable that was a pain in the ass.
I prefer the Cigarette over the Formula the wife like the Formula better.
But even with the rough water we have here the Formula held up amazing well. not a single stress crack. no corrosion issues just a great boat.
