Dyno day for the stroker!!

Well, after spending a couple months this off season putting my new engine together, I'm hoping to get it on the dyno this afternoon. It's a 496 stroker, Gen 6 block, Brodix race-rite heads, 4130 forged scat crank, mild cam, forged rods, pistons, roller valve train, the whole deal. 9.4:1 compression, mid-grade safe , with a worked Holley 850 sitting on top. Excited to see what kinda numbers it puts out. It's built on the safe side.. Any guesses? And the rubber fuel line isn't going to be used...

580hp, that fuel pump may not be up to the job though

Blackedout02 05-20-2015 09:57 AM

Ya, I have my doubts as well. That's why I pulled the impeller housing off the back to run on the dyno and see if I'm getting the fuel pressure I'll need.

Wobble 05-20-2015 10:14 AM

cp performance sells an upgrade for that pump which will work well with your application. I have used it in two boats with up to 600hp and it maintained pressure

I've always wanted to know, what's the difference between a 496 and a 496 stroker ?

Good luck on dyno day.

Thank you. I don't know anything about the 496 mag, but a 496 stroker is just a 454 bored .060 over with an extra .250" of stroke. So a 6.375 rod

Unlimited jd 05-20-2015 11:41 AM

Might want to double check that rod measurement.

SB 05-20-2015 11:47 AM

Short rods make more torque and make up some for a restrictive inlet tract. Although a 4.375 rod would be a little severe. :drink:

Blackedout02 05-20-2015 11:52 AM

Haha ya. Oops. My bad. I'm on my phone

SB 05-20-2015 12:05 PM

Does the same hold true with a 383 vs 383 Stroker ? IE: WHat's the difference ?

Blackedout02 05-20-2015 12:11 PM

I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to this stuff, but a 383 stroker is just a bored and stroked 350. I'd imagine your referring to a mopar 383? I'd imagine that's just displacement? Again, I know very little so I'm sure someone will chime it to answer better

SB 05-20-2015 12:23 PM

I'm just bustin your balls on adding the word "stroker" to your engine size.

Alot of people do it. Somehow it became part of the name for a 383cid sbc and a 496 bbc.

Blackedout02 05-20-2015 12:34 PM

Ahhh. I was just under the impression then "stroker" label was added on with the longer rod or "stroke" . Again. I'm still Learning all this lol

phragle 05-20-2015 01:45 PM

You can go with a longer rod without changing the stroke, The stroke if changed by the throw of the crankshaft

If you think of the crankshaft as a lever, the longer the lever, the further the up and down distance will be, the greater the distance, the longer the stroke.

Rod length is an entire story to itself. Readers digest version, it effects the leverage the piston has on the crank, the tdc and bdc dwell time and keeps things from smacking into each other.

Blackedout02 05-20-2015 01:56 PM

Ya, so the larger radius swing of the crank as opposed to a stock one

SB 05-20-2015 02:25 PM

Phragle's a stroker, but we don't call'm Phragle Stroker...right ?

LOL.

Some history, did you know that the 350 and the 454 are strokers too ?

SB 05-20-2015 02:31 PM

Wrong thread.

LOL.

Short stroke, short rod, but can rev it to the moon............

SB 05-20-2015 02:59 PM

Hope she's got a Pan Evac system !

RT930turbo 05-20-2015 03:57 PM

Poor Blackedout02 has no idea what he stepped into :picard1::picard1:

So do we have any numbers??? :)

Blackedout02 05-20-2015 04:38 PM

Gonna hit the shop after work and hopefully get it on the dyno. I'll post up when I have results. I'm expecting around 580 tho

Brandonb_05 05-21-2015 06:27 AM

Ran outta time Yesterday and got postponed until this afternoon unfortunately. Ended up having to put my remote oil filter setup on since a standard filter wouldn't fit with this oil pan.

ICDEDPPL 05-21-2015 08:29 AM

Guy asks about power expectations and gets the third degree about engine lingo.
Nice set up, I think you`ll see some good numbers. Like those heads too. Nice to see something different besides Butt Hurt Bobby set ups on OSO. Good luck!

SB 05-21-2015 08:41 AM

3rd Degree ? Was joking with him. And stated that. And he took it that way.

I guess some are a little to serious with everything. You ever smile ?

No cam data, so no # guess.

Probably why you didn't guess either.

Blackedout02 05-21-2015 09:24 AM

Ya, it's alright. I know how the forums work lol. I'm not too sensitive to that stuff. I was trying to find my cam data yesterday, but didn't get a chance to go thru the comp cams book and match the numbers up. I'm re-using my cam that was in before this rebuild and my builder said it would work just fine for my setup. I'll see if I can track down some #'s. I realize that has a big impact on what power it makes and where.

MILD THUNDER 05-21-2015 06:05 PM

What are the cam specs?

Nice combo. Looks good too.

TBAG 05-21-2015 06:33 PM

What's it going in?

Brandonb_05 05-21-2015 08:47 PM

SB 05-21-2015 09:53 PM

Brandon, Popcon for Beakfast and Dinner ? LOL,

Brandonb_05 05-21-2015 09:54 PM

I actually just finished a bag.

Pop-secret with extra butter

NO! NEVER!
Way to make fun of my Smile Deficiency Syndrome or as us sufferers call it SDS.
Whats next , you gonna make fun of the kids getting of the short bus? Geez CFM you`re heartless.

I rode the short bus. Dropped it, added some cool rims, and made it faster of course. LOL.

I feel for ya. I've heard the mean kids yell out things like

"smile poopy pants"

"turn that frown upside down Mr Brown"

Or, taking photos is always a tough one for those with SDS. You always have some jerkoff with a camera saying "cheeeeeeese, cmon smile for the camera". Plus it sucks when you win 5,000 bucks on a scratch off ticket, and still look like someone chit in your cheerios.

Best of luck to you, and remember, turn that smile upside down.

DBleil89 05-22-2015 01:14 PM

I am curious on the numbers. I actually built close to the same motor last summer. I didn't go .030 over though. I'm starting to put it into the boat this week. Post the results when you get them.

12meter joe 05-22-2015 09:17 PM

I heard this is the thread to visit if one wants to get stroked?

buck35 05-22-2015 09:27 PM

Rosey palmer is always available to those in need. :pacifier:

mcprodesign 05-27-2015 06:43 AM

No need for stroke. Just leave it all stock and it will work perfectly ;)

DBleil89 05-29-2015 03:13 PM

What's the update on the dyno numbers
