There was a 95iirc model straight bottom 38 Avenger built with 600mercs and #5s. Illinois boat I believe. Only SSM PQ I've ever heard of.

There are much better "floating condo" type hulls to start with than the 38 PowerQuest to go that fast.

38 PowerPlay comes to mind.

Yeah but finding one of those is like finding a unicorn at the Kentucky Derby!

12-14 38's in existence, Cant Touch This had big power w/#6's on boxes......it is fast!

38 Donzi ZX is another option. You may also like the Fountain 38 Express Cruiser.

No way you'd be able to pull that off with a 38 ZX. Engine compartment is too short for trannies.

I think the original idea would be questionable due to the change in the center of gravity on the boat with the additional weight of transmissions and #6s. Isn't that something that needs to be addressed in a step-hull boat?

The guy I bought my boat off of had some 1000's custom built with Bmax drives he was going to put in a 02 38 Powerquest before I bought it with extension boxes. After doing some research on the hull, he found out it wasn't worth it at all, about 700 horse I guess is about all these hulls want.

Couldn't agree more and couldn't have said it in a nicer way.
