Bought my Checkmate before kids. Now have 2 little ones. It's nice walking out of the our cottage onto a pontoon with a 115 hp mer. Pull tubes and skiers with ease.
We take the Checkmate to bigger lakes now. Lake MI, Hardy Damn, Lake of the Ozarks. I think it's great having the best of both worlds.

We cruise at 50mph with tops close to 60mph. Most common comment as we pass other boats..." is that an F-ing Pontoon" -
You just proved my point about wishing I'd bought that Powertoon Xtreme with twin 300's...
I couldn't bring myself to buy it because it was an "old man's boat" but your 'toon with the same power (496HO] is faster and holds the same amount of people or more than my 29' Baja 292 Islander I bought instead. My boat tops out about 52mph. Granted my boat could use a shortie lower and a prop with more cup right now but I doubt I'd pick up enough make up the difference. Hell, the SeaRay 290 SLX my family bought new with the 496HO/B3 combo only ran 45mph flat out.

His slow, family boat is a 38' Scarab. He boats on Lake Shelbyville here in IL.

Take a look at Horizon Motorsport / Havasu. My 07 Playcraft is featured there. Red/white boat.

Because it does 114mph, that's why. Does YOUR boat do 114? Because mine doesn't, and I know yours doesn't, so we're the a-holes "cluttering the lake" when that dude shows up to run....

Maybe this guy who's clearly given up on life ought to attach a bumper stick on his 'toon...
