heard a rumor: fountain is on a c.o.d. basis with mercury? my comments on beaks and platforms is more to do with how it's allowed manufacturers to raise prices. when that 25 becomes 27+ i will bet the price went with it.

Saber,
I am not putting any boats down, All the boats I listed I hold in very high regard. I am not sure how you came to that conclusion??? Your remark of "my boats a real 28 foot, care to race in rough water" Please help me out, what is a real 28'???? So any boat with a swim platform is not a real boat?? Tell me how you really feel:D :D :D WILL |
From where I'm sitting-
Win (race) on Sunday, sell (boats) on monday...
and advertize the crap out of your accomplishments. And see if you can work as hard at the game as Reggie. If a beak, swim platform or any other device will make the boat go FASTER, Gimme two of each... three or more if they'll fit. And the best reason for running short courses would be it's easier on equipment. AND the riding crew. |
will,
28 foot of hull in the water , platform does run in the water so it does not affect hulls ride. if my boat had a bow pulpet 4 foot long my boat would be 32 foot, but would it handle any different because of it? |
Originally posted by Back4More I can't speak for the newer Fountains but I can for my 93 "Roughwater" 42...there ain't an Apache or Cig I can't run next to on Lake Mich. Don't get me wrong about Apache...my next boat is leaning toward the new generation 41 by Warrior Powerboats. |
Saber28, So all 28' of your hull sits in the water????? I doubt it?? I really don't care how it is measured, All the boats I mentioned are very nice and fast.
Oh by the way would a Bow pulpet 4' long change the ride, YES it would, it changes the center of gravity on the boat, thus your sweet spot and either increases or decreases running surface, and drag. Oh and by the way if you do want to race some time I am up for it;) just watch what you wish for I'm done :D WILL |
How many people in this forum are registered professional racers, or have been at one time? I am, and the FACT is, fountain builds the fastest vee bottom out there. cleaveland 2001 was one snotty race, with ****ty conditions at best. who won factory 2? fountain did, a 35 to be exact. we all know that factory 1 and 2 are the real proving grounds for builders. Anyone who argues that is simply kidding them selves. I would like nothing more than to get into a factory 2 or svlt fountain. The only reason that i don't is because i am not the majority revenue provider to my team, and i will simply race what i am bale to with my team.
Cold facts are just that, FACTS. FACT= APBA F-2 kilo 36+ belongs to a 38 fountain. FACT= APBA F-2 kilo 35 and under belongs to a 35 fountain. FACT= Fountains are still winning at the pro-series level, where it is always a challenge. (F2-57 Harwick concrete) I am not a fountain cheerleader, as i am not partial to reggie, but the fact is he builds the fastest vee bottom in offshore. there are many great boat builders out there, with cig and formula definitly in the top five, but as far as overall perfromance, fountain is #1. period. |
Too Old
You are absolutly correct, but I believe VELOCITY was fastest in F-1 (APBA). Is that correct?

Dock holiday, Because its one of the few models left that can be orded without steps.

Too Old, after 3000+ posts, your entitled to an oops!
I can only imagine T2x right about now – must...be....nice, .....resist.......temptation. :D :D |
I am currently looking at a fountain and as a kid i would detail only Fountains (more $ per ft for the work :p ) I can say they will take a beating I mean you are going to break cabin interiors on any boat but the nuts and bolts are all there. I can also attest to Reggie himself with sander, ruler and other tools in hand tweaking the bottom on the new 48 cruiser and i would say he hit the nail on the head. David Woods told me he ran one over 100 miles with 20 people on board @ 62mph with 2mpg now that is the end all right there......... I mean the bottom line is not the boat example Jon tomlinson MTI cat national Champion, Skater cat 2 weeks later World Champion and the previous season had a 37 Talon (out of bounds) kicking eveybodies butt.

fountain:cool Ps: Mr Reggie dresses like Turkish-Singers with that lovely chains....lol :) :) :) |
MROFFSHORE - thumbs up. Great summary and perspective.
Will - Way to go! Stand up for us 27s. My .02 - in the speed game all that really matters is what can more your but faster than the other guy from point a to point b - over, under, or through whatever is in the way. Everything else is just fuel for the pissing contest. Why are the Fountain owners always taking so much heat? Reggie. I don't know the name of any of the top five boat building company owners. Could that be that they are corporations? Maybe putting a face and name with a mfr is whinning us "newbies" over. Name recognition. |

When I started boating I knew one day I would own a Fountain. Initially it was for the simple reason that they looked cool, looked like they were flying even when they were putting through the channel. After riding in a 27, 29, and a 10 meter in Lake Michigan I really knew I wanted one. My 42 is 12 years old with trip 454mags and it will run WOT all day in flat or 5 footers, and the hull still looks brand new. My bud, Midnight Rider has a 91 42 with trip 600's that looks brand new too. We beat on these every weekend. I looked at a lot of boats before buying mine, and none of the 11-12 year old boats in the 100K range looked like they had held up as well as the Fountains I looked at. Reggie builds a fine product.
F2-34thrttleman, well said my .02 Rick |
i'm not just picking on fountains, any boat with moulded platforms and /or beaks is shorter for it's stated length than a flat transom boat. as far as cost do not kid yourself, if coast guard changed way boats are measured dont you think over time prices creep up? in 1989 i bought a 226 baja, in 1991 the same boat is now a 240 with a $4500 price increase! this thread was started with reggies statement about cigs. and formulas, thats my only beef with fountains, not poor quality or anything else. if you listen to his propaganda you would think his boats are superior in all ways to any other boat, this is just not the case.it's his attitude that turns many of us off. BTW , i have raced many fountains , lost a few , won a few, and ran dead even with similar powered fountains with steps! again top speed is only one method of calculating boat performance.

I hate to tell ya'll, but I got the best boat ever built, bar none. It will go faster that any other twin engine, piston, V-bottom period! :D :p

Of course, to the general public, every speed boat, including Fountains, are "Cigarettes" :D :D :D Sorry guys...I could not resist!;) :p
|
But seriously, I think that Fountain builds a great boat as do numerous other companies. It all boils down to personal preference.
Lynch Mob (F2-3) |
I'll take the 1/4 canopy 42 Outer Limits over ANY V-bottom.

APACHES rule! there i will admit it, tonto, i cannot think of a boat that just screams badass like them. big freeboard , flat transom, flat deck, just badass.to bad benny does not wear gold chains, just chains:p

Very Simple
"It's not how FAST you go, it's HOW you go Fast" Right Robert;) Long live the flatdecks!!!!!! Mark:D |
The last poker run that we ran in was in fairly rough conditions. The top boats to finish that day were Cigs including our top Gun. We walked alot of fountains that day running alot more power than my 500 EFI's.
So who was the fastest that day? In a smooth water run I am sure the fountains I walked would have walked me. My.02. BTW: as far as length is concerned, I know to qualify for the Catalina ski race the maximum length of the boats is 39'. The 42 Fountains that were entered only had to cut off about 6-8" of the "beak" because they don't count the swim platefrom. What does that tell you about length? Not bashing just stating facts. |
SOME OF THESE GUYS MUST HAVE A HIDDEN AGENDA REGGIE !!!
MOST OF US KNOW THE TRUTH , EVEN IF WE OWN OTHER BOATS I HAVE 3 HOLES IN THE WATER ,,ALL DIFFERENT MAN. :D :D :D |

BUT...... He still sell over 500 boats a year.
His doing something right. mike |
Originally posted by Back4More Tell me about it...Allpuss is turning Offshore racing into 4mile long circle tracks on water. Thats sooooooo boaring. Not that it makes any difference, Just curious. ;) Please allow me to make some observations... First, Havasu Cig makes an honest point. If you could take a whole fleet of, let's say, 38' boats with identical motors/drives as they come in pleasure version, with equal talent driving, line em up on Lake Erie during one of those "Nor'Easterns, (or whateverthehell those are), and see who wins. Then do the same on Havasu with the same boats and we'll probably see a different winner. BUT, don't be surprised if neither race produces a Fountain as champion. Make no mistake here. I like Fountains. They look cool, they're well built and they're fast. I don't care for Reggie a danged bit, but I have a high respect for his marketing genius. As for the claim "fastest boats in the world," well.... A few years ago, APBA set a maximum X dimension on Factory class boats. Note; This new maximum height was actually higher than Mercury suggested, and, I believe, higher than Mercury would warranty on a recreational boat. But, it made the race boats safer, and brought them back to a more "Factory" setup. Funny thing was, Reggie and the Fountain gang was screaming foul when this new rule came about, claiming that ALL of their boats came with close to the same X deminsions as those in the kilo runs. BUT, when a number of APBA inspectors, and indeed, a few of our fellow board members, went to private owners and Fountain dealerships with old fashioned measuring devices, it was found that not one exceeded Mercurys suggested maximum height, and none came even close to the new APBA max height. As for the length issue, Let's face it. Not many boats these days have the usable hull length that is advertised. A 26' Velocity used to be called the 260. Now it's the same boat with a swim platform and called a 280. Same for lots of other boats out there, but not all of them. Anyone shopping for a new ride needs to be aware of this fact, and whether it matters to them or not. Such as, We could argue that the 38 Cigarette has more usable length than the 38 Fountain. While this is actually a true fact, it won't matter till both find themselves side by side in 8 foot slop. Untill then, both owners are going to be proud of their boat, regardless of what name is on the side. And that's what matters the most. |
Mines bigger, better , my daddy will beat up your daddy and my 38 Cigarette w/ ITS is now a 39 ft boat ! haha----brian

Mike:
Give me a call @ the dealership 770-945-2628. I would of loved to see Tres and Todd run the Virgin F2-1 - 36 Cig Gladiator for one more season. We'll be running F2 next year in the 36 or possibly a new 38 . Never call Lute - Luke , I did one time and it was ugly - haha - call me ----brian |
Mike:
Love this posting stuff - Formula F2-62 CRE Motors - My throttle girl Louise Whitmore got 3rd in the 2nd race in The Worlds 2001 - APBA -(she had never stepped foot in the boat until KW) One fast 38 Formula. The boat has been parked since then(For Sale) - We were going to run it this year till I flew to Miami and took a ride in a new 38 Cig w/ 575's in about 5 footers - holy cow! I'll shut up now - brian |
