Reggies swollen head

quote from powerboat news and notes "well, if you are one of the leaders, like peter hledin and me........it doesnt do anything for me to make it look like a cigarette or a formula can run with a fountain, because they cant". that sounds like a challenge to cigarette and formula to me. this guy must need all those gold chains to keep his overinflated ego anchored to the ground. i'm not bashing fountains so do not flame me please, but i know of plenty of boats that will run with a fountain, especially in the rough water:p

Hauling Trash 09-11-2002 08:42 PM

Why does he sell over 500 boats????

His right about mike a .....

fountain1fan 09-11-2002 08:46 PM

hey guys will somebody pleas pleas print the power boat interview so we can under stand

SABER28 09-11-2002 09:12 PM

mike , ferrari sells far fewer cars than ford sells mustangs so i do not think sales makes the best indicator of who's boats the best

Steve 1 09-11-2002 09:17 PM

like peter hledin and me........
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Putting himself on the same Level as Skater Pete??? That’s a bit of a reach I would think!!

Audiofn 09-11-2002 09:31 PM

In some countries it is illegal to compare yourself like that to your competition. I am not sure I would go as far as to say that is a good thing, but talk like that does have a tendency to really turn people off.

Politically Correct

Fountains are fast - Fact ! Since APBA put CRE in motion Fountains are slower- Fact! Reggie is one heck of a salesman and Joey Griffin is one heck of a engine builder - FACT!

SABER28 09-11-2002 09:41 PM

let's face it there is no way to crown one boat the BEST, fountains may be fast but they are certainly not the best rough water boat out there. why does he have skater lay up his race boats? if he builds the best boat, why does he need to keep buying the first 6 pages of powerboat every month to tell us that?how can he say my 38 foot boat is faster than yours when his is only 35 foot?:p

Back4More 09-11-2002 09:46 PM

Well Stevie boy...
Who builds the fastest cats in the world? Skater does.
Who builds the fastest V's in the world? Fountain does.

Sounds like about the same level to me.

Powerboat Mag.
Blah Blah Blah..."Then he (MA) started announcing that he was going to do all he could to equalize the sport.
If some company's boats are not fast enough, if they're a little too slow , what we have to do is slow down the good guys, put them at such a disadvantage that they can't beat the slow guys.
Well, if your one of the leaders, like Peter Hledin and me, that dosen't make any sence.
It dosen't do anything for me to make it look like a Cigarette or a Formula can run with a Fountain because they can't.
Then he (MA) starts lowering the X-dimensions on my boats and adding weight to my boats.
We start winning with Benny (Robertson) and Jerry (Gilbreath) and he kicks them out.
I just want to be left alone under the rules.
Thats all I wanted" RF

SABER28 09-11-2002 09:50 PM

brian go to the apache thread and watch the video, that was real OFFshore racing, top speed was not the most important thing back then, rough water handling was. todays INshore racing bores me to death, cannot even watch.

#1 Answer...Because they are the only ones who can.
#2 Answer...Because he can.
#3 My Answer...Last time I measuered my 42 Fountain it was 42' 1"

:p

Kent Perroux 09-11-2002 09:52 PM

With very few words, you said quite a bit Brian.

As far as Reggie? Got to admit he is an excellent marketer!

mopower 09-11-2002 09:54 PM

Add a 2' beak and make the boat only 17 lbs heavier and you can claim your 35'er is faster than theirs...good idea if you can sell it (the idea that is) .

SABER28 09-11-2002 09:56 PM

why do we always rank boats by their top speed? where i boat on lake michigan probably less than 25% of the time the water is smooth enough to run full out. rough water handling is much more important than the last 5 mph.

SABER28 09-11-2002 09:59 PM

back4more.
how much of your boat is doing anything, not the swim platform or the beak. sounds like a 39 footer to me:p

Steve 1 09-11-2002 10:02 PM

Back for more BOY Wrong dead wrong what was Reggies first production Boat and who Built it??

Now you see Pete is a for real Boat builder (key word here) who can go out in the factory and build a winning Boat!

While Reggie can only go out in the factory and sign one I would imagine. No comparison between the two.

And I hate to break your bubble but I never saw a Fountain racing the UIM circuit why?? The Quote Fastest Vee on Earth should have killed those Buzzi RIB’s Right ????????

:p :p :p :p

SABER28 09-11-2002 10:09 PM

where are you cigarette owners out there ? anyone care to run a good oldfashioned OFFshore race, big waves and all, for bragging rights?

Well mr. Saber28,
My swim platform is used for sitting on and suckin down some cold ones with my Hottie, and the beak gives me bow lift and keeps the water off my sunglasses.

As for running balls out on Lake Mich. 25% of the time...I run balls out on Mich. 100% of the time...In my little 39er. :p

SABER28 09-11-2002 10:20 PM

having another manufacturer build your product's says alot . stand on the street corner and say the sky is falling and somebody is going to believe you too.

H2Xmark 09-11-2002 10:20 PM

If I could pick up a deal on a Fountain, I would, but Reggie sometimes, well just look how well his stock is doing:rolleyes:

Back4More 09-11-2002 10:24 PM

Oh, you mean the restyled Excaliber?

Since when Is an Offshore boat an investment?
Its money thrown at a hole in the water for pleasure.

SABER28 09-11-2002 10:41 PM

lets get you , SABER41 wickedwon, a cig. tiger, a few apaches, a outerlimits, maybe a few more and run them in some really snotty stuff, there is some racing i would like to watch, not this enclosed canopy/ catamaran stuff that is passed off as offshore racing today. i believe apba racing is never going to be popular as nascar because nascar is identifiable to the everyday joe cause of chevy vs ford vs chrysler. skaters are like indy cars, technically superior and faster, but not many people are going to drive one like they drive a baja etc.

Back4More 09-11-2002 11:22 PM

Tell me about it...Allpuss is turning Offshore racing into 4mile long circle tracks on water.
Thats sooooooo boaring.

You are so right Steve!!! I didn't know until meeting him @ SKATERFEST that he sprayed all his own boats. He must have some awesome safety equipment out there because talking with him he sounded like his mind was all there...;) I must say, he is not the typical glass guy with a few burnt cells.....:D :D :D

BAJA WILL 09-12-2002 07:37 AM

Damn,

Allot of you seem to always come down on Fountain. I have meet various owners and builders of many Offshore boats and they all say they are the fastest!!!!!!!!!:D Best built boat out there. Fact is we all know some are faster than others in different conditions. And yes Fountain is one hell of a boat, but so is Cigarette, Velocity, Donzi, Skater, Spectre, Active Thunder and so on.

As for the length, hell, one of the reason fountains are very fast is because less of the hull touches the water at WOT, is that not the goal of many builders? Also doesn't Formula, Donzi, Howard, some Bajas, Velocity,Scarab....... include their swim platform in the overall length. Damn you guys never seem to bust on them???

Fact is Fountain is a kick ass fast boat or else everyone would not compare theirs to it.

Class dismissed

WILL:p

Audiofn 09-12-2002 07:53 AM

My buddy had a 10 meter ICBM with twin 420's in it. We were out in some rough stuff in a 30ft Veloce (old drug runner) with 3 225 carb motors. That is 840hp brand new motors with two drives on the Fountain to 675hp on three drives dragging in the water in a heavier boat. Well needless to say we did not walk away from the Fountain we ran away from it. Then we blew a lower unit. The guy thought we were screwed. Well we still kept up with him with just two engines :D:D

Fountains are well built boats and I like the style of them. HOWEVRE any boat with a pad is limited to its ability to run the real big stuff. There are very few boats in my opinion that are at all original. Regie certainly did not design his hulls. He did not design the pad. Look at all the baots that are running Steps now (for what ever you think of them). All that matters is that you like the boat you own. I always thought that Fountains are one of the coolest looking boats out there but never put them in the Fastest catagory.

Jon

SABER28 09-12-2002 08:01 AM

gee will,
my boats a real 28 foot, care to race in rough water?:p reggie claims his boats are the best, but in reality lots of other boats can and do kick fountain ass all day long. when you claim to be the best and put down others (cigarette) of course you are going to invite critics to take a shot at you.it's reggies endless promotion that turns so many people off.

THEJOKER 09-12-2002 08:03 AM

Trust me the racing today is not boring . Daytona , Corpus , Savannah, Cape Cod, Key West- ROUGH ROUGH ROUGH? I race a 2002 38 Top Gun w/ 575's and it hauls the mail in any conditions. In my mind I'm running Open Class in the 70's - haha. It's all for fun and we challenge anybody to come play with us!

From what I can see it appears that Reggie Fountain is a marketing genius...he sells a lot of boats...the number of boats he sells more than likely correlates directly with his advertising budget...so let's not bash him for his six-plus page advertisements in Powerboat Magazine...I think you would applaud a marine manufacturer that has the ability to support the publication you all so much enjoy reading, without his advertising dollars and the that of others you wouldn't get your monthly magazine! His "endless promotion" certainly doesn't "turn off" approximately 500 boat buyers every year...

Let's stop the Fountain Bashing...they're great boats...just like a lot of others out there...

Is he running APBA again? News to me.

He must not be selling any boats cause their is no ad in Powerboat this month. Guess the interview was cheaper. Now who are buying these 500 boats a year. Are they old time gofast people or newbes that buy into all that advertiszing that they see in Powerboat. Not bashing just wondering?
Pete:)

Back4More 09-12-2002 09:35 AM

RF buys stock back every other day or so...He's getting ready for when Mercury comes in for a buy of Fountain Powerboats.
I can't speak for the newer Fountains but I can for my 93 "Roughwater" 42...there ain't an Apache or Cig I can't run next to on Lake Mich.
Don't get me wrong about Apache...my next boat is leaning toward the new generation 41 by Warrior Powerboats.
