UIM is the International Motorboat Union. They are the World Sanctionioning body for powerboat racing, encompassing Nations of every hemisphere:

From http://www.uimpowerboating.com

UNION INTERNATIONALE MOTONAUTIQUE

Though it bore little similarity to our modem sport, powerboat racing can reliably trace its origins as far back as 1902 when the British formed their Marine Motoring Association. By the following year, New York´s Columbia Yacht Club had formulated a constitution for what ultimately became the American Power Boat Association and the French had formed their Congress of Automobile Boats. In 1903, the French ran a 62 mile circuit race on the Seine at Meulan and the 230 mile Paris to Trouville event while the following year saw a race across the English Channel and an attempt to promote a Trans-Atlantic marathon.

.........The hub of the Union, clearing house for all contacts with and from its member nations, a total now risen from twelve in 1927 to fifty-seven in 1997, and distribution centre for all relevant documentation, is its registered office within Monaco´s Stade Louis II permanent sporting complex in Font Vieille. This small suite of offices is staffed by the UIM´s permanent full-time Secretary General and two administrative assistants.

.........The ultimate authority in the sport is vested in the UIM´s General Assembly which is made up of one delegate from each sanctioned national authority and the General Assembly meets once annually in the spring of the year, to ratify the minutes of the previous year´s Annual General Meeting and examine the reports of the General Secretary and Treasurer. In recent years and indicative of the wider ranging interests of the UIM, the location of the AGM has been alternated between Monte Carlo and Miami and Tokyo, a precedent now established.

..........The formation of a Technical Committee and the sanctioning of the American Power Boat Association to represent the nation with the biggest potential for competitive growth began a progressive programme of sporting, technical administration and safety development which continues still.

.........It is within the last decade that the UIM has grown most and part of the onus for this must fall on the proliferation of racing driven jointly by the Union and its various independent promoters. Most notably this has seen racing extend its horizons to encompass China, Cuba, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Greece, Hungary Jordan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Malta, Russia, South Africa, Thai-land and Yugoslavia and the growth is likely to continue.

Thanks BK. WOW you learn something new everyday.

Hey Steve, you got me on that one! Next time I see Reggie I'll ask him to make sure he starts racing more in Yugoslavia!!:D :D

Steve 1 09-18-2002 01:33 PM

Curt
You need to reread BK's Post The UIM is the World Standard Period Outside of the United States.

And to play there you have to have your Chit togeather !

Sorry about your reading comprehension BTW:D

SABER28 09-18-2002 01:33 PM

hey curt,

SABER does not compete in sbi or apba, that's why you cannot find anything. this thread is about ego's , not about who's boats hold what records. this thread is about a putdown of two major boating companies by R.F.. do not take it as a personal slam against your boat, that's not what this thread is about:) i've never said anything bad about fountain boats, why do you feel the need to make a backdoor slam on mine?, would it make a difference if i owned a cig. or a powerplay, etc.?

if i am not mistaken, your last post was questioning my slogan at the bottom of my posts.keep reading and you will find the above quote further down the page.
i have stated my opinion about boat length and how we are not comparing apples to apples depending on platforms and bows. how does that constitute a slam on fountains?

Steve 1 09-18-2002 04:17 PM

Not True Bobby

The second people can’t answer they use the OLD BASH CRUTCH!!

In closing Reggie compared himself to Skater Pete (which was why I ORGINALLY posted) do you understand the difference?? That is I’LL Explain My Point!

Between a “Boat Builder” and a Molder? Just wondering! You see A for Real Boat builder can from a drawing on a Bar napkin or a Proper set of Drawings .Go into the shop and build a winning Boat!

Now Mr. Molder needs a MOLD!! AND He doesn’t count AT ALL by the way! But a Real Boat Builder has to provide the Prototyping for the Molding only Guy! Now what boats has Reggie PERSONALLY BUILT ANY ?

Now Peter Hledin is a for real Boat Builder ! I saw The Boats he designd and built when I was racing in the UIM Series I did not see anything by Reggie there !

Also I Personally took a Lot of Negative remarks In the 3-Apache Threads and did not EVER Cry Bash With that said WHY should I care about anyone ELSE!!

jb 09-18-2002 08:31 PM

oh boy, I actually followed this because I know Sabre builds on amazing boat. But I must say it was fun for a while. I enjoy a good reggie bashin sometimes it keeps people interested and debate it good for the soul.
Bottom line...reggies boats are respected, and serve their niche in style and performance. Everyone has their opinion of reggie...jeoulsy, envy, hatred, admiration, you name it.

Hey, Dale earnhart(however you spell it) was the same way.........until he died. Then folks realized he was so good for sport in ways they never knew.

Reggies time may someday come as everyones does. Love em or hate em ...it would be a sad day for sport.

Theres .02
Someone take the ball, lock the thread, turn the keys, throw them(or it) in gear, and get some wind in your face. We all have one thing in common ....this sport!

if we could only see Reggie now as he reads this:p

REV-ON 09-19-2002 08:27 PM

hello fellow offshore freaks. i own a 24 saber that runs well on stock parts. reggie has done more for are sport than anyother
in the recent past and should be held in high reguard. the issue
to me is not so much about the man as the product. fountain
boats are the measure of all others in our field, this is not to say
they are without compromise, also true of sabers. the elevation
of fountain has undoughtedly caused production to elevate the
process of manufacturing effecting some aspects for the better
and others for the worse. while fountain enjoys the latest in
sleek lines and highly engineered hulls while possibly losing some
of its racing heritage to reel in customers . sabers relativly
crude styling is more than made up for in its wave smashing hull
layup. WITH THE SUN OUT,THE WIFE AND KIDS ON BOARD I WOULD TAKE THE FOUNTAIN FOR THE DAY, DUMP THE OLD LADY
AND THE DIRTY DIAPERS LOAD UP SOME BUDDIES AND THE SABER
RULES.
