i never bashed a fountain boat mike, do read my posts or do you just assume i'm bashing them. i'm sick of him claiming his boats are the best all the time. simply NOT true! i'm glad you like your boat, i like mine too.
|
SABER28,
I suggest you try P-Class, I am sure many of your questions will be answered very quickly right then and there! I am certain it will be a humbling and enlightening experience. |
Shane, Well said! I have to agree with you. I was not aware this thread was about who makes the fastest 28’ boat, but it seems to have evolved in that direction. I also agree that size for size; a 28’ Skater would be a VERY hard boat to beat in ANY water condition by a 28’ “V” bottom. I have never been out in a 28’ Bat Boat, but I can’t forget George Linder’s smile at Skater Fest 2001 after going for a ride with Chuck. He was shaking his head and if I remember correctly, the word he used was “Amazing”. As far as Reggie’s ego goes, Sure he has a big one, and rightfully so. His Company has evolved into a giant, partially due to brilliant marketing, and partially due to his record on the racecourse. Reggie knows how to walk the very fine line between speaking of his accomplishments, and taking credit for inventing the offshore powerboat, as we know it. BTW, I wonder what the initial “M” in his middle name stands for???? We could run a contest, yea that’s it! I think I know, but T2x has sworn me to secrecy. Most successful boat builders have large egos. When their boats are out on the racecourse winning they have many reasons to be proud of their accomplishments. Granted, some very successful builders are soft spoken, Peter Hledin, Rich Luhrs, Bob Saccenti, George Linder, to name a few, they let the records do most of the talking. .
I have hit on the next “What’s in a name” post. Philip |
The Answer Reggies 1st Production Boat
Originally posted by Steve 1 Back for more BOY Wrong dead wrong what was Reggies first production Boat and who Built it?? :p :p :p :p His and Gary's (Partners at the time) first production boat was called an Executioner. It was built by Mr. Farmer from the 29' Aronow hull designs. Don Able was the guy they got the molds from. Also, a 28' Magnum left Florida and returned as a 30' Skater. All of these are really one of another. Had quite a time on all of them. Correct me if I am wrong. Hear there was a new site coming with some of this history. Let you know more when I hear. |
Here's just a few more thoughts.
Reggie builds a Great Boat, and love him or hate him he's like George Steinbrenner he brings attention to the sport Do I agree with what he says about APBA not at all, but I'm sure from his standpoint he's getting more bang for his buck being the show in SBI, rather than another player in APBA. As for the people who say how bad he'll look if Fountain goes out of business (which I hope he doesn't) Where have these guys been when the Grand daddy Cigarette has been through how many hands in the last decade or two ? Lastly short of Don Arronow who (from a building, racing, and marketing stand point) has done more for offshore racing ? |
Well said Rum Runner. Although I would say he is the Steve Spurrier of high performance boating. Some people hate him, some people love him, but either way no one can dispute his history of success.
|
My thoughts about Reggie! If you don't like Fountain Boats, don't buy one! But to trash Reggie is not cool! I went to most of the APBA races last year, and had a chance to see Reggie in action, and was able to visit with him several times. There is no man involved in powerboats that commands the respect of everyone around him like Reggie does! Period! As for his Company being in trouble, what high-performance boat builder is doing well right now? He will survive, and he will keep making Fountains for a long time to come. By the way, I own a Scarab!
|
donzi and active thunder to name 2
|
isn't i strange how these companies can do so well and probably 99% of hi-per boaters could not name the company owners, ego's unnessasary.
|
I would not go much farther SABER28. I would bet many if not most people here know the names and probably have worked with the owners of the company of the boat they have. For instance, I have a Formula and a Skater and know Scott Porter personally and have spent some time with and spoken several times to Peter Hledin. Let's see, yup I know Pat at Active Thunder, John Coen at Superboat...shall we continue? You have to realize, that many if not most of us, take our pride and joy VERY SERIOUSLY and consider these relationships important. I think you might just be barking up the wrong tree. You would most likely be more successful at challening Al Gore to just about any political topic than you would be challenging any of us on our boats.
|
it's all about how you market a product...some are based on the boat, the image, the person behind it,,,,you get the idea...whatever works.
hummm,,,,what if you have them all???? |
Wow, this things still goin....
|
reggie is a very polarizing figure indeed! you either love him or hate him. has he brought good things to the sport?,probably yes. is his lastest (leaving apba) stunt bad for the sport, yes. we are never going to agree on who is #1 or fastest, etc.
for all you fountain guys out there, i hope you are not losing any sleep over this thread, some of you do not seem to have much of a sense of humor:p your defense of him is as far one direction as you claim i am in the other. |
Saber28,
I love it! ok, i just nailed a 8' 2X4 on my bow, now do i have a 36 foot boat? Troutly, You the man, I use to have this exact thing under my name on here. You are an officer, what the hell is wrong with these people? I hope you ticket for this. PS...Get the hell out of the left lane! I'm liking this thread better all ready. |
thanks dock holiday,
that's not a slam on fountains, although you would think that by their reactions:D more a general statement about coast guard ruling in 1991 to include platforms and such into measured boat length. |
since you are both in N.C. , do you know who bobby daniels is and do you have a phone #. trying to buy BBC's from him, cannot get ahold of him
|
everyone has an opinion.i think fountains are one of
the nicest/fastest boats out there, but i have met reggie twice and in my "opinion". if you are not looking to buy a fountain,he is to friendly. p.s. i think saber started this thread just to raise his post count. 53 on this thread alone:D |
SORRY
type o NOT TO FRIENDLY |

If you want an autograph...get in line in the morning at the autograph session!! PS...just so you all know I was kidding around....I have actually found him quite friendly...before I purchased my Fountain he was very friendly...and if he had judged me on my age he would have blown me off too...but he didn't so I respected him for it...he answered my questions...all of them and made certain I was happy with his answers...if I wasn't he changed them!:p :p Mark |
I have sat here for over 30 minutes reading all of this and I have one question. What the H is a Saber?
|
a well respected boat |
sauron
SABER is a small custom builder based in coopersville, michigan. they build a 24 foot, 28 foot, 34 foot, and a 41 which is based from the original 41 APACHE mold. all other models are their own design. they have a reputation for being absolutely bulletproof and i will testify to it. they are usually custom made to your specs and no two look alike. probably one of the best kept secrets out there. i have had mine for five summers and have never broke anything or tightened a single screw, how many others can say the same?:D |
32 fever
motors are for my SABER, i expect to have to race alot of fountains next year:p |
On the Saber 24.....they have only ever built 2 or 3 of them. Ever. My friend Cris has one (runs it around on Hardy Pond and in Grand Haven......). It has a 365 hp Merc mag in it and will run around 70 mph all day long and still looks like new (it's a mid 90's vintage, not exactly sure of the year). Flylevel is a close friend of his also. I think Cris is a member here, but may have only one or two posts. Cris was very kind to me this spring as he pulled my motor for me with his shop hi-lo.....and it snowed really hard that day!!!
SABER28, have you seen the other 28 hanging around Grand Haven?? Wild blue and yellow and orange paint job? He is a friend of mine from WAY back. We used to work with at Russ' together......has to be 12-15 years ago now. He ran that boat on my company poker run a month or so ago. Awsome ride!!!! Mike |
isn't that boat the old wet-trap cyclone? somebody told me curt gano took the motors for his cig. i have ran into the old all red single, i believe it was the first made, very nicely done white paint job with graphics down at coral gables. he was tied up next to me but was not around when i left. i would love to have a SABER year end party i any of you guys are out there?
|
Yup....Wet Trap.
|
MR O
i know you were kidding, but it was not at a boat show. it was at drivers meeting and physicals. even in the dry pits.granted i was not in a fountian but you can at least reply when someone says good luck. |
reggie obviously cannot be bothered with talking to peasants like you or me. you should have been ashamed to even to try to convey good sportsmanship with such an important figure as him:p
|
nothin better to do!
You guys sound like little girls with nothin better to do than talk **** about people! You should be as sucessful as Reggie, and accomplished what he has done for high performance boats. He has raced all kinds of fast boats for years and has more seat time than most of you big mouths! And I have raced against him and that guy has guts and tallent! He works with John Carbonell and SBI and is a great asset to Offshore Racing! How many times were you a World and National Champion? I read these forums all the time and usually don't care to donate bull about what you people talk about, but to listen to this negative ****, I had to voice my opinion. Sounds like there are a lot of jealous people out there.
|
Rickoffshore........well said.
|
RickOffshore: VERY WELL SAID!!!
|
if you don't like it , don't read it:) people can have different opinions you know.
|
opinions
opinions are one thing, when you get into someones business and talk **** that's another!
|
Rickoffshore, couldn't have said it better myself! By the way I was looking at the SBI and APBA point standings today and must be missing the class(s) that allows SABER boats. I can't find any victories or points for that matter tabulated anywhere.
      Any help would be appreciated. |
Rickoffshore and Curt-----WELL SAID!
|
Curt I was looking at the UIM Stats and could not find any on the Fountians !
Can you provide any input ? Maybe I missed them ! |
I don't even know what a UIM is.
|
Curt
When you do figure out what the UIM is please get back to me !:) |
RICKOFFSHORE
I wish you would say who, you are talking to. |
