I think its cool to have recognition of past accomplishments as in any sport... Once youve hit . you can carry the patch..

Beside it wouldn't look as good if it read "Former World Champ" Stay with the Coke

When I was racing I swore that if we ever won a World title that I was going to get a tattoo on my shoulder to commemorate the accomplishment.

I assure you that if someone said something years later like "you don't race anymore you should remove that tattoo" I would have told that person to STFU.

That's like saying. All of my kids should get a tatoo because I did something right?

All those Cigarette logo's splattered all over the boat reminds me of some race cars from the 60's with STP decals everywhere. Sometimes less is more.

No, but they could say they were bred from a world champion. And that the family name means something in some little hobby-sport part of the racing world.

Don't tease the Ciggie boys too much . or they will cut the sleeves off everyone of their logoed shirts and jackets also.

That logo is like the Nike swish of boating. Everybody knows it and certainly Cigarette utilizes it quite well. They know branding, nobody can deny that. To me there are 2 logos that I think of when thinking of offshore boats, the Cig oval and the Fountain lightning bolt bracelet thingie. Fountain wasn't shy about plastering that logo all over their boats either.

Agree with you about branding and brand recognition and it's true Fountain have splashed 'Reggie's Ring' on many blank spots over the years. Only difference is that the ring doesn't make any claims or inferences, it's a logo in the true sense, no strings attached.

That said, I think Cigarette are right to maintain the logo the same way it has been for decades. It's smart business and anyone who buys a new Cig and then feels disappointed when they realize their boat is not the current title holder is a pin-head and deserves to be disappointed!
