Gotta help on the slip, dont you think? Its like driving a car with a bad tranny. Catches and goes, then slips, then catches. After the boat gets above 65 the slip is not as noticable.
Main goal is to get engine RPMs past the peak of the torque curve and into the 5500 plus range Looking at slip, if your drive is 1.5:1, turning a 25" pitch at 5000 engine rpm at 73 mph, that calculates to 8% slip. This is low for a 3 blade and kind of indicates the drive is deep. You might find that even though the 4 blade is 24" pitch, the added blade might prevent the engine spinning up like you want. It's just time for a shorty and surface running cleaver prop! PS - My Dad's 20CL in post #45 was built special with a high X dimension and ran a 3 blade cleaver. Was a great combination for that hull. Results may vary though! |
There's quite a few of us serving 'humble pie' for dinner!
Congrats on getting the project done and achieving such a good result. I admit I was a doubter, guess it makes it all the more satisfying for you to do what many thought wouldn't work. Nice videos, sounds great and it looks like the wife and family enjoy it to. Don't worry too much about totaling up the cost, the money's already spent, just enjoy..... RR |

Any chance you get to try a different prop is a good thing.

A truer statement has never be spoken...............Just fired up engine and headers leak like hell! Lucky I bought them from a standup supplier thats well known, and is doing right by me.
So now I'm waiting on a new set from Diamond Marine........Will this ever end? 2 Very well known marine engine builders call and tell you that the headers you sold their customer are leaking BADLY I spend the freight to ship them back, only to be told that after he has "pressure tested them at a whooping 20 psi they are just fine. No problems So he offers to put them up for sale again on line (since there is nothing wrong with them) and send me a check when they sell Anyone on there think i'll ever see any of that money again? I'm with holding his name from this board because I'm not an *******........................................... ...........YET |
